Read reviews on net that Noctua NH-D15 is one of the best air cooler succeeding the NH-D14. Is it really that good? Anyone owning the cooler can verify and give an example of difference in performance as compared to something like, hyper 212? h80? am considering purchase of one NH-D15, and what is the first hand price in SLS anyone knows?

This is the only air cooler that will beat any regular aio cooler such as h80i or any thin radiators kind of aio. But if you have that kind of fat budget for cpu cooler. It is best for you to consider the Corsair H100i GTX instead.

The downside of this cooler is the size of it and it goes over the ram heatsinks. Only a few rams height is compatible with this heatsink.

Also depending on the chassis you use. Most mid tower chassis will be able to fit just nice. Any smaller this heatsink will have height clearance issue with your side panel.

Thanks for the quick response, however why would you suggest the H100i GTX instead of the Noctua? Hesitating water cooling even AIO in fear of leakage.
Currently using a CM 690II Advanced case with Deepcool Gammaxx 400, iirc the two heat sinks are of same height. Ram clearance unable to verify but currently I have two Avexir Core Series in my Ram slots, they're pretty high imo idk if they'll block the NH-D15..

I would suggest the aio cooler instead over the dh15.

Reasons why...

1. Easier to mount vs a huge heatsink and no need to worry ram height issues and chassis size etc.

2. It performs slightly better than the dh15.

3. You got corsair link program to control the fans and settings you want. Also furthermore better aesthetics vs the dh15 which covers your entire board and you see nothing.

4. Do not need to worry about leakage. Aio tubes are tough. It will not leak mid way or tube burst. The only thing that one has to see is the joints from pump and radiator ends. The only thing that will break is that. But it will not leak. This all will only happen if you over strain or stretched them.

The fears of leakage are non-existent. The warranty period is quite long so this says quite a bit about its durability. I've used a few AIOs and none have failed me.

The only issue i have with the cheaper coolers, sometimes it's quite difficult to mount them well. but the Corsair ones should work well.

Suggest you go to Noctua website and look under the product compatibility page.

The cooler is so huge you have to consider whether it is compatible with your present parts.

3 issues is Case can fit? Ram heatsink can clear? Will it block the 1st pcie slot?

I almost bought it last time but heng I go read up first. Cannot fit my case, in the end go for D14.

Yeah checked it already, case can fit and pcie slot won't be blocked. But I think ram heatsink will be blocked due to height. Seen people shifting up their fan a little to avoid the ram.

I've seen people ranting about how their h100i gtx is loud at load on tomshardware and LTT forums, some even said it fell apart after few months. Is the h100i gtx reliable? Or is it just bad luck?

Stock fans should be quite noisy. Anw don't need to ramp up fan to max for performance. You trade noise for that few degrees Celsius nia.

Reliability should be there bah. Though Corsair link from my last impression is quite jiak sai one.

I changed the stock fans of my H100i GTX to Gentle Typhoons. No noise at all even with GTs running at max 1800rpm speed.

It's the stock fans, the Corsair SP120L that make the loud noises. They are already audible by 1400rpm speed (their lowest speed is 1100rpm).

If your case allow, go for triple fans! :D

Not sure about now, but last time I use D14, I emailed Noctua and they gladly send me a third fan mounting kit FOC.

They stopped offering FOC mounting clips with the D15.

Can I install a third fan on the NH-D15?
Adding a third fan to the NH-D15 only yields minimal improvements in cooling performance (0.5°C max.), but noise levels will increase significantly. As this doesn’t make sense from a technical point of view, we don’t include mounting hardware for a third fan in the box and don’t offer it separately.
