Non-urgent upgrading

Currently my build looks like this.

i5-2500K
8GB RAM
Nvidia 1070Ti(got it during Lazada sale last year)
512 GB Sata 2.5" SSD
23" 1080p 60Hz monitor

Still running well for my usage I guess but I have the urge to upgrade now(hand itchy). Mainly getting a new CPU, Motherboard, RAM, SSD and maybe a new monitor. Hopefully everything within $1000.

Seems like AMD just released the Ryzen 3000 series. Looks good but is it good for value now? Especially when the demand is jacking the price up. Also, it seems that there's a couple of different chipset for the motherboard. Should I just get the B450. What are main features I will be missing out from the X470?

Heard that RAM speed is pretty important now so what is the standard speed now? 3000mhz?

Lastly, how is the Prism+ monitors? Seems pretty good in terms of price but I am not sure about it's performance and reliability. Want to get a higher refresh rate monitor since I like FPS games. Mainly looking for a 27" 144hz 1080p panel.

Not in a hurry now so I think can wait for a good deal or for the price to drop when the demand falls a bit.

If you want value, ryzen 2600(x) are super cheap. Pair it with B450. X470 usually have more features, more m. 2 slots, etc

Ram can go 3000 CL15 or 3200 CL16. Decently cheap.

Prism monitors are good and cheap, but a bit of a lottery with their dead pixel policy (need 5 to exchange. Mine came with 2, sadface)

Not the 3000 series? The price of 3600 seems close to 2600x. The B450 motherboard needs to have the new bios right if I go for the 3600.

Another question... never had a dual monitor set up before. Will there be problems if I use two monitors with different refresh rate? I am planning to use my current monitor as a secondary display(for example, browser/music control on my secondary while I am gaming on the new monitor).

After taking a closer look into things. I have found out a couple of problems:

1. My PSU is currently 7-8 years old and I am not sure whether I should replace it. Also, it is not modular but it should okay I guess...just a little more cluttered.

2. As for my case, it doesn't really support AIO cooling solutions so I will be stuck with the air cooling. My current hyper 212+ is an old model so I am not sure if it fits the AM4 socket.

Any advice on this? Thanks!

1. Your PSU is at the end of its rope, Capacitors degrades and when it explodes it will bring down the rest of the components connected to it. Better replace it. Consider the PSU as the heart of your PC, everything is connected to it.
2. Your Hyper 212 is pre-AM4? If its purchased before 2017 then it doesn't have the AM4 brackets included.

To be honest, FSP Aurum 700W is a good PSU. It can last for very long. I do not feel you need to change that. It can still power a current system without problem. Buying new PSU doesn't mean it will be safe, wrong thinking.

Last gen Ryzen 5 2600 is apparently going on clearance sale at just roughly half the current market price of a Ryzen 5 3600. Can pair that with MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX but need to wait for stocks to get replenished. Otherwise, last last gen MSI X370 GAMING PLUS is apparently also going on clearance with price cut on Lazada.

Thankfully AMD made AM4 bracket fully compatible with older sockets. So you can reuse your 212 in ease with older socket brackets. Just a block of metal. Dust it off and it'll performs brand new again.

Your FSP Aurum PSU must have its warranty ended 2-3 years ago. Despite being robust, I will still recommend for a refresh. Cos being stable for past 8 years doesn't mean it will continue to remain like that in the next 8 years. Especially when you already have expensive graphics card and you'll be buying more expensive parts to overhaul the system, treat a brand new PSU as an insurance commitment to protect those expensive parts. I would recommend Seasonic FOCUS PLUS Gold 750W (SSR-FX) @ $164 with 10 years long warranty. Can last through 2 gens.

Don't mind paying a bit more for the latest series since I don't really do upgrading much haha so I will definitely get the Ryzen 3600. I guess I am going for:

MOBO: B450 Tomahawk Max (Why only this board is recommended? When is the new stocks coming?)

CPU Cooler: I guess will try to reuse it but if cannot then use stock cooler first I guess.

Monitor: Looking at Prism+ F270i now but I settle my rig first lol.

Don't really have a hard budget but just trying to get the build done without wasting too much.

The MAX boards have a 32MB chip to accommodate Ryzen 3000 BIOS. The older boards have a 16MB chip so some features have to be cut to fit in Ryzen 3000.

If building for gaming, get 1tb ssd instead, games getting space hungry these days. You can go for sabrent rocket 1tb on amazon.

Games put in SSD only loading faster right? I still my HDD and I usually will uninstall the game once I am done with it.

Tbh is it really that critical? From my understanding some other manufacturers are mitigating the issue by removing support for older APUs to make way for Ryzen 3000 series.
