SSD really an important requirement?

SSD is costly so average peoples dont buy 1TB for that. Consider having 1TB HDD is more than enough for most users.

Having SSD 256 GB for Windows OS, System Drivers and partition for System Protected files. The remaining we use it for some application.

Then we use the second 1TB hdd for games and medias, pictures files... Most games are large size.

Usually the game saved files are stored in primary OS drive which is SSD. While the game launch from 1TB hdd.

How does this really benefit for gamer?

:D

Yes i know that having fast boot into OS and fast loading application from SSD is an luxury. How about those in hdd. Is it faster too?

That is what he excluded from the PM yesterday lol. Thats why i was thinking why he excluded it. Now he asking a wider PoV. Glad that you asked here to.

1. SSD provides extremely fast boot up time and creates the entire OS to be much more responsive. HDD will take time to process things that you need. At times its too slow and becomes unresponsive and could lead to hangs or waiting time is far too slow.

2. SSD benefits games such as FPS games, in transitions at checkpoints and save points, games like MMORPG such as Diablo 3 will benefit way much better. In Diablo 3, waypoint maps are always slow to load on HDD and at times you find either your friends on SSD clear most of the monsters while you are still loading, or at times you don't even know how you die especially when you hear background noises but you see black screen as when your HDD is still spinning. Even games like BF4, load finish straight go for vehicles, losers on HDD will be on foot by then.

3. Games that does not benefit from SSD is mainly strategy games, such as Dota 2 and StarCraft 2. You need to load, but even if you load finish, you still have to wait for everyone to load finish simultaneously.

SSD is so cheap now. A 128/256GB is more than enough for casual c: requirement. They're now what, $100 or so, about what a mech kb or top mouse cost.

How is that a luxury when the 1) the system is more responsive and 2) it cost less than a darn GAMING mouse pad.

Try a SSD for a week and report back, I'd say.

I have SSD...but not really see the diff in speed.

Previously my OS is in HDD and the boot-up time also around 4 to 5 sec? (the time from the 4 light combine to become window logo) and then straight login screen.

now my OS is in SSD (sandisk extreme pro SSD) almost look the same..still 4 light combined become window logo and straight to login screen..but i just tell myself its lil bit faster (although not apparent at all).

same goes to the game...install in ssd and hdd..loading time about the same..game experience the same too...

so not sure the advantage is so far apart between the SSD and HDD that you can feel the change in speed...

I'm using 2 SSD's now. My 256GB for OS and 500GB for games.

Definitely see a performance increase but to me, not that huge of a gap but I definitely won't be going back to hdd for games haha.

Only thing HDD has in its favor now is price and storage space.

I expect another 2 years before SSD's take over completely when the capacity and price are more equal to HDD's. HDD's will probably be used only for massive storage data and such.

At royfrosty :

Let say i install my games (steam program) on hdd. The saves file location is in ssd.

Will it be faster too if i load my save game from ssd while game is in hdd.

Lol I dunno why you compare loading to login, everyone compares pressing the power button all the way to a fully loaded desktop screen

I like SSDs, they are amazing and pretty affordable now. Little reason not to buy now, unless you are tight on budget, but even so I recommend saving a little more for one.

So the min combo is 1 250 gb ssd and 1tb hdd.
