Dear Bros & Sis,
noob question.
i am using OCBC for trading.
when i exercise for rights, payment is by ATM.
the rights issued was not reflected in my ocbc trading account portfolios but my cdp statements shows the total (including the rights issues).

So, my question is, if want to sell all the stock using my ocbc account, it is allowed is it? because the ocbc portfolio only shows half of what my total holdings as per cdp.

sorry for asking "noobies" questions.

Thanks all in advance.

You cannot depend on OCBC portfoilo. Because it only records the transaction you have with OCBC brokerage. You have to check with your CDP account always.

If you buy the shares using OCBC but sold the shares using other brokerage, your OCBC portfoilo will still have the shares unsold, you will need to update the portfoilo yourself.

My CDP statement does state that the rights shares as well.

"If you buy the shares using OCBC but sold the shares using other brokerage, your OCBC portfoilo will still have the shares unsold, you will need to update the portfoilo yourself."

I only have OCBC account. all my trades is through ocbc. So does this mean i cannot "sell" the stock that are not reflected in my ocbc portfolio even though they are in my cdp account?

if so, does it mean that for ipo, where we also applied through ATM (same as the rights application), the shares will not be reflected in ocbc portfolio as well?:s11:

Thanks for your kind advise.

As long as it reflects on the CDP statement, you are able to sell off on your OCBC platform which might or might not reflects it. I think I have a similar case once with other brokerage.

What matters most is your CDP. As long as the stocks are reflecting in your CDP, you can sell them off via any brokerage that is linked to the CDP.

As for your rights, was it done on OCBC ATM?

Ocbc securities is just an agent

They wont know what u do outside ocbc securities, only Cdp knows.

Even if u buy stock xx from ocbc, stock xx will go to your Cdp and not ocbc unless u kept stock xx inside ocbc margin account.

Even if you transfer out stock xx into scb, ocbc won't know and on your ocbc portfolio will still show your stock xx one

That's why your rights is issued by Cdp and not to ocbc one, all u must do now is to manual add the extra shares of stock xx into your ocbc portfolio for easier tracking

Nobody is a noob in share trading... we are all learning together.

You can open as many brokerage as you use. But I also trade using OCBC account.

In summary, only rely on CDP account. You need to manually edit the OCBC portfoilo.
OCBC securities brokerage are just brokerage, they are the middle man who buy and sell shares for you. What shares you hold are all in CDP. IPO also same, all held in CDP. Your OCBC portfoilo will not reflect the shares.

You can attend the free seminars conducted by OCBC to familiarise yourself with the platform. I attended all the free seminars, it is very useful. There are some i wanted to attend the second time.

However, if you trade using Standard Chartered Bank trading account, the shares are held by Standard Chartered Bank and not CDP.

short sell?

I find myself in a similar situation as discussed. I own shares at cdp, but they not reflected in brokerage's portfolio. I was briefly told by my broker that i could still sell the shares, but it may be reflected as a shortsell in their system, as i do not technically hold the shares in there records.
however, i still couldn't quite figure out how it'll work out. How do i sell my cdp shares if it's not reflected in my trading account? To my understanding, opening a short position means i'll have to close the position by buying back the shares. Can anyone with knowledge about the process enlighten me?
I just want to sell my shares.

wtf. why your broker mislead you?

your account is linked to the cdp when u open the account.

so when u buy and paid up stock xx at cimb for example last year, your stock xx will be delivered to cdp on t+3, so your shares are inside cdp, while under cimb trading system, it will be recorded as a buy for stock xx *for record n tracking purpose*

so next year, when u sell at poems for example, on t+3, poems will go to your cdp to retrieve your shares to give to the buyer, but under your poems portfolio, it will be reflected as a short sell *for record n tracking purpose*

so what u must do now is to add manually stock xx into poems portfolio for easy tracking

In addition, ur broker dunno the exact number of shares u have. Only u urself know.

Best method is still to keep records in excel sheet, or write in notebook. DIY. DIY.

Yes. Check CDP account to be 100% sure.

But it's still good to keep ur own records.

To apply for service

3 simple steps to apply for CDP Internet Service:

Step 1: Complete the application form http://www.sgx.com/wps/wcm/connect/182b318047ab4e19a0cfa5b5eac0cac8/Service+Application.pdf?MOD=AJPERES

Step 2: Mail the duly signed form to

The Central Depository (Pte) Limited
4 Shenton Way
#02-01, SGX Centre 2
Singapore 068807

Step 3: CDP will send the Internet PIN to your mailing address within 3 business days.

Please note the following:
1. Both Joint Alternate account holders are required to sign on the application form.
2. Corporate account holders need to complete the section on "Certified Copy of Resolution for use of CDP Electronic Service"

B. To reset Internet PIN, please click here

they are not crossed
