does anyone feel that the basic 5400/7200rpm hdd pc is not longer good neff for office/home work?
outlook+word+excel+chrome

my office is using a intel 6 gen + 8gb ram + hdd + win 10

i have been monitoring the pc for abit now...

i spend alot of time waiting for it to turn on and enter win
chrome + 3 tab + outlook + word is already taking up mem 74%
hdd is almost aways spinning at least 50%
cpu is ok at 20%

i feel that a basic ssd no need mvme just stata 3 will help so so much.

what do u guys think?

The setup is quite old and I think if you need to buy an adapter to get M2 slots. The issue is not so much the drive, but Windows that have become so bloated since Windows 10 and getting worst with 11.

To me, just by switching to any SSD, you experience a significant jump in system responsiveness. You can buy a SATA 3 SSD, but if it cost as much as an M2/ NVME SSD, then I feel it is better to buy the M2/NVME SSD + an adapter. After all, SSDs are transferrable, and you can use it in any new PCs in the future.

For normal use just change to SSD.
HDD running Windows 10 is really slow compare with older OS like Win 8.
Is can run but when it run very slowly.
It can mean either the HDD is failing or Windows have issue.
SATA SSD will do fine, NVME is not necessary since it won't make a big difference.
Unless you are editing videos and large data transfer.

I don't disagree that SATA3 SSDs is sufficient here. But my recommendation is based on price. If a SATA3 SSD cost more than an NVME one, then I see no reason to go with the SATA3 SSD.

Issue is not just hdd vs ssd

A desktop pc running Intel 6th gen cpu is likely quite old, the psu is another sometimes forgotten component

Unfortunately, many office desktop use non-standard psu, i.e. You can't just drop in a ATX psu when the psu eventually fails

Yeah, a sata ssd will help a lot. Just buy a cheap 128gb ssd and set it up as boot disk.

If you are just using the pc for word, outlook and chrome, I think your current spec should be enough. If you wish to open more chrome tab then add another 8gb sec hand ram

IMHO.
SSD will definitely help.
Prior, maybe can try CCleaner, defrag HDD and follow by setting the virtual memory to be a fix size.
