No point bringing IC. It is not a recognised form of identity for travel. It is a great liability if it's lost. If the passport photo is not recognisable, the one on the IC is unlikely to fare better, isn't it? At least passports are renewed every 5 years.

That's true, the only document used for identification being recognized outside one own's country, is the passport.

I remember losing my passport on my recent trip, luckily a kind soul in the hotel found it for me. I was so like gonna cry lol....

I always have a photocopy of my passport stored separately from the original when I travel.

You should bring it with you when travelling overseas.

I see it as unnecessary since Passport is the only official identification when out of ones own country. As suggested by the rest, do a photocopy of your passport as a backup.

Besides if you lose your IC, you'll need to spend more money to get a replacement. :)

I clean out my wallet before I go overseas. Irrelevant credit cards, ATM cards, and NRIC get swapped for foreign currency, discount cards and metro tickets etc.

Depends on what's your status here in sg.

My PR colleagues sometimes are asked for their IC when returning to SG, either by airline to proof that no visa is required for entry or by SG immigration officer.

IC might be helpful to proof your identity and nationality if you have lost your passport. Driving license wont state your nationality, just your name and IC number.

i got robbed once in malaysia (10+years back)

IC, passport, driver license all gone.

I laterally walk back across causeway. The malaysia side just let me go after i show them my police report.

At the singapore end, they simply retrieve my data from the computer. And i was free to go. Becos there is nothing (photo ID) i can provide to prove my identity anymore.

In the end, I have to pay to remake my IC, passport and driver license. Damn TL.

Now i only bring my passport overseas. To minimize the damage.

Don't bring ur IC. Polis elsewhere don't recognize it. Just take passport or at most 11B.

I worked in few mnc they told us before. Passport is what they wanna see. So they normally ask us to bring at least some photocopy if u are not getting any tax free shopping or our APEC biz card ID.

But still I bring my 11B
