Notebook hangs once reach windows desktop

Hi all,

my brother's lenovo y470 suddenly hangs with mouse and keyboard not being able to move or register any keypress.

what could be the cause of it?

did a restoration still didnt solve it.

Run memtest86 to see if your ram is fine.

seems like one of the ram stick got problem. ran memtest on this stick on both slots all got error..

but load windows with the other stick that managed to get pass from memtest it still hangs..

Any idea what else to try?

Mostly likely graphics card issue.
Sometimes graphics card issue can be disguised as RAM issue because when the integrated Intel graphics takes over, it actually uses the RAM memory for its calculation.

Since RAM test are already done, then likely it is graphics...
