Guys,

Any idea when will notebooks with MX150 GPU arrive in Singapore?
They are supposed to be faster than GTX950 and but not as fast at GTX1050. Most importantly they are much cheaper and easy to cool.

e.g
Asus UX430UN
Acer Aspire E5
Acer Swift 3
HP Envy 13
etc

I'm sorry to say this, but the problem of carrying excessive stock shouldn't be passed on to consumers. Imagine Samsung telling customers they can't sell S8 locally until they get rid of all the S7.

And bear in mind, it's not like customers don't have options like buying from Amazon or Qoo10.

It's a vicious cycle.
As a business, you won't write off the old stock, neither will you price it to the point that it will reflect badly on you; worse yet, some brands control the price margin and will never want the retailers to discount beyond a reasonable figure.

Consumer can demand and have other options surely, but whether those options get you official support and warranty is a different question altogether.

Until then, the traditional shops will still have this issue.

But back to the MX 150 GPU model notebooks - they aren't much better than GTX 950. More efficient though. Just to ask, why are you looking for a notebook with this GPU class? They aren't drastically better than the iGPU and still far behind a mid-class GPU that has decent muscle to deliver good gameplay and graphics. Generally, I would recommend users to go full ultrabook without a GPU or if you're getting one with GPU, it has to be GTX 1050 class at least to make it worth your wallet and gaming quality.

the Hp market and laptop market is varsely different in recent years
people may wan to get a newer phone every 1 or 2 years compared to getting a new laptop every 1 or 2 years
think about it
if im a company and i want to order stocks from a laptop manufacturor, if i order less stock more expensive, if i order more stocks, less expensive?
if i order less stock, will they allocate any stocks to me? especially if its the latest model/series?
they would rather commit to countries like taiwan japan USA or europe right?
singapore is a small country with a small market
Anyway this is just from a personal POV.

The price-performance-weight ratio is very ideal for MX150. You can get a fairly light laptop with a decent spec'd processor whilst maintaining a certain level of playability for games all for a very good price.

The Pascal 1050 laptops are also very appealing, but they are typically heavy (>2.5kg) or priced much higher than MX150 laptops. Of course, given the lack of MX150 options available, I am using $600usd to Acer Aspire 5 in America as a gauge.

For what it's worth, Challenger is now selling the Acer Aspire 5 and Swift 3 with MX150 variants. Cheapest is the Aspire 5 i5 at 900+ (closer to 1000).

There isn't much choice at this point in time if you are looking out for laptops with MX150 GPU. I think outside of Singapore, a lot of manufacturers may have announced it, but not sure if the availability is there too. Most of the manufacturers are probably still trying to offload their old stock.

Having said that, the MX150 is about 30% faster than the older 940MX that has been around for quite a long time. It may perform close to a GTX 950, but I doubt it will outperform it with the limited memory bandwidth. It is no where near the performance of a GTX 1050 for sure.

Well, there is no 1050 laptop that is 1.2kg. Also there is no iGPU that can play GTA5 at 1080p at reasonable framerates. For a sub $1000 Ultrabook that can play AAA games, its good value.

It's true that there are no light laptops that runs with a GTX 1050. However, it makes sense to find out if TS really needs a light laptop to begin with. From the original thread, cooling is one of the main reason to look at MX150. But do note that even though the heat output is low on a MX150, the cooling solution will also be simpler resulting in higher temps. If heat is a concern, all laptops have the same problem.

Im also looking for a GD mx150 notebook that's light weight and GD value.
