Mine's also lifetime and those who downloaded last time is considered free until only recently they start to charge that and is only applicable to new users.

Those who download if before they implement this will get a lifetime service and do not need to pay subscription. U can reinstall again. Go to payment info under settings and you be able to see your account info.

Just 0.99 usd per year which translates about $1.30 sgd.

This is less than the cost of a can of soft drink in the food court.

If the yearly payment is an issue, you can consider free alternatives like wechat/line/viber etc.

Cheats? Scammer? Did they promise life time subscription? Where were you lead to believe it so?

$0.99 per year not per month plus this would atleast give them the money to maintain the servers. You think server no need money one is it? If they don't do yearly subscription, then whatsapp will just die out and nobody can use.

You cheapos don't think about such consequences only know how to b!tch about how your life is unfair.

Whatsapp is an app that is well paid for IMO. I'll pay for apps that suits my needs and usage.
