So I'm 17 this year and enrolled in a GCE A' Level course in a local junior college. I'm from a highly competitive sports CCA and have unfortunately suffered multiple injuries requiring surgical intervention. My right knee patella popped out during a competition when I was 14. I tore my left knee lateral meniscus when I was 16, and went through a partial meniscus repair and meniscectomy after the incident. This year earlier in March, I tore my right knee lateral meniscus (bucket handle tear) and undergone surgery again to repair it. Unfortunately the repair wasn't successful and so a mere 5 months after the surgery my lateral meniscus tore again and I'm going to go for surgery next week to remove my lateral meniscus.

I'm going for my NS medical in late October and I just want to know the consequence on my PES status after all these injuries. I mean NS is going to be 2 years of my life and frankly I am quite looking forward to it after 12 years in the Singapore education system. I'm hoping not to down PES but I wanna know the chances of me still being declared combat fit and being allocated to a meaningful vocation (coughs commando coughs). Not that I'm saying those who down PES don't have meaningful NS journeys but I want to make the best out of my 2 years.

Also, I heard that if I don't declare my injuries I won't be down PES but then again if I get injured during NS and MINDEF finds out about my history I'll probably get charged so this probably isin't viable.

The consequences on your PES status? You will be given a PES status that is suitable for your medical conditions.

it really depends on your medical conditions. They may send you for more checks before giving you your PES status. If your medical condition not suitable to be combat fit eg, when your injury is easily relapsed, chances for you to be pes fit is quite slim

they dont want you to worsen your injury during your training and MINDEF need pay your medical bills :s13::s13:

Boy, mai siao la. Make the best out of your 2 years? NS is not just about the 2 years, it's about the 10 years later.

Just declare your medical conditions and tell the MO that you think you are fit to be in a combat vocation.

It's best to declare any medical conditions you might have. Seeing all your previous injuries, if you are lucky, you will probably get PES C, but more than likely you will be PES E. If you wish to go through the trouble of up PESing, then you can, but take into consideration that if you up PES, you will need to recourse BMT.
