Just completed my Mortar NSTT Conversion Course. Frm what I heard Mortar will only be available for Bravo and Charlie Batch, I got in by expressing interest to my PCs. You will be in the Mortar platoon of your support coy. For ICT, you will either be posted back to 8SIR, or to 9SIR.
Training the most — if not one of the best course you’ll every attend. Trainers are Super nice (shoutout to Warren Goon, MSG Shih and SSG Gan) training will be conducted at Artillery Vocational Training School at Khatib camp. (Don’t let the name fool you, you’ll still be an infanteer — just mortar trained) it’s a 2 - 2.5 weeks course. Basically you’ll learn how to operate a 120mm Mortar — Action Front (deploying), Cease Fire (keeping), and basic
Maintenance. Specs and Men will train tgt
Day to day training will be spent at Gunhill, out in the sun deploying your mortar (expect to get super tan) but training pace is slow and everyone is pretty lax (never got ****ed once during course) Trainers are aware that you’re going to ORD soon and can’t be bothered. Your day will end ard evening, with the exception of A few night training. I think you’ll get plenty of nights out.
Overall if you have the chance, definitely sound off to your commanders you’d like this course, training is 100x better than infantry training back at clementi. Your summary exercise (Ex Giant) is just one day at Simpang Vs 3d2n outfield for the infantry people (lol WGT) anw have fun!
