Hi any senior know whether we need a laptop for the first few months during year 1?

I am planning to wait till the next IT show to get my laptop...

two years ago not really necessary, except some tech comm class will ask u bring. Normally should be can wait till IT show, sch comp pricing sux esp for apple products

IMO no need. unless TS dont even have desktop at home.

If you're new to programming, go ahead to get a laptop as soon as you can so you can tinker around with code during lectures/tutorials! A compromised experience in the introductory programming course will lead to shaky foundations later on.
