I'm a poly student enrolling to NTU comp science this coming August. But why my programme study yr showing 1 only. I thought poly student can direct entry year 2 and graduate within 3 years? I'm sure I did not have the option to choose anywhere.

Short Answer - There is no such thing as Direct Entry Year 2 for NTU Computer Science.

Long Answer - You must have heard the wrong information or had a wrong impression. When you applied to NTU, the list of courses eligible for direct year 2 is clearly given. Refer here:

There are courses like Civil Engineering where all poly students from relevant diploma can definitely start in year 2.

There are also other courses where you need a certain GPA to quality. (This changes from year to year I think)

For computer science, there is no such thing at all. Hope this clarifies.

Might not be a fair comparison - but for my course (business), I complete 103 AUs in 3 years. Completing 136AUs in 3 years is like having 30% additional workload compared to normal...

If you follow their suggested curriculum closely, more or less you can graduate in 3 yrs. Bear in mind that NTU module system are flexible. You can add/drop module(s) up to your liking. However, please do not take those suggested modules lightly. They are not that simple nor difficult.

You need to know your strength e.g. are you a fast learner, etc.

You can take lesser modules if you want to. It is up to you to plan what are the modules you are going to take for your first semester.

On a side note, i noticed that the new curriculum allows poly students to exempt CZ1003 or CE1003 which is a programming foundation module using Python. If you are not comfortable with your programming, please do not take the risk.

yea...not really possible unless you really push yourself

Question is pushing oneself that hard, is the end product going to be better than spending the normal timing that most people are doing ? 3-4 years versus 40 years of working, only <1/10 of the time, will 1yr difference make all that differences ?

Yes it will cost more, but if you measure having better results and better knowledge for the 40 years ahead of you, will you rather a good foundation to start and higher probability of hitting a high ceiling or a bad foundation to start ?
