I got offered for both of these courses.
Which course should I accept?

If you tell us what you're looking to get out of the course (eg, are you just getting a degree to get a job, or you're super passionate about engineering, how serious of a student you are etc), what your academic interests are and so on, then people can give better advice.

I'll just list whatever comes to mind, in case it is of any use to you in your decision making process. I'm a student who'll be going to TUM btw.

One thing is that TUM Asia is an overseas campus that obviously smaller than that in munich or other parts of germany. So even though it's campus blind and you do the same course and get the same degree, TUM Asia's eeit has less choice of electives than TUM Munich's eeit.

There's a big difference in the way the course is laid out too. If you go to NTU EEE, you can graduate as whatever type of student you want to be. There are those who score less than average but still pass, so they come out as that sort of graduate. Then there are those who score high GPA since year one, then go on to do Hons or whatever. In a sense, you can choose how rigorous you want to take it. The difference between passing and 'doing well' is higher in NTU than TUM.

In TUM however they follow the German system where the passing mark is very high. And the course is much more rigorous, so it's either hit or miss. As a result of that, the drop out rate is high. From what I've heard, it's around 30% to 40%, where 10% choose to leave, and the other 20-30% are asked to leave due to poor grades. Oh and in TUM they don't grade on a curve, so what you score is based directly on how well you do.

In terms of employment, the percentage EEIT graduates who are able to get a job before or right after graduation is about the same as those in NUS/NTU from similar courses. The starting salary of TUM grads is slightly higher. This information is from 2012. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dt1LeF_y7k)

Pay wise, you can refer to the latest GES released by MOE. NTU EEE graduates earn around $200-$300 more as compared to TUM EEIT.

Usually students who are accepted into the NTU/ NUS will most likely choose them over SIT. Simple reason is because it is a local degree. As a graduate from these 2 universities, it will be easier for you to get accreditation and registration.

NTU EEE is definitely better.

But it is one of the most intensive course in NTU, like many said: easy to enter, hard to come out.
And all engineering course in NTU is direct honor, you can't choose whether you want to do it or not.

salary-wise 2017 GES published (ranked lower the better):
NTU Electrical And Electronic Engineering – $3,517 ($3,800) ranked 41
SIT Technische Universität München Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering & Information Technology – $3,339 ($3,488) , ranked 70

Please do note that for GES 2017

NUS/NTU/SMU is according to 2016 data (as they were surveyed on Nov)
SIT/SUTD is still according to 2015 data as their surveyed date for 2016 data is (in feb and march 2017 which is still ongoing now)

http://digitalsenior.sg/graduate-employment-survey-ges-nus-ntu-smu/

As per comparison, if we were to be fair (take GES 2016 which is 2015 data)

http://www.salary.sg/2016/graduate-employment-survey-2015-published-2016/
NTU EEE 2015
- Employability = 86.2%
- Salary = Mean of $3446

SIT EEIT 2015
- Employability = 100%
- Salary = Mean of $3339

In conclusion, I think you should choose NTU since its around 100bucks more though employability wise SIT might be higher since their degrees are more industry-focused & their graduates have IWSP to bank as practical experience

Thank you for your insight. I will choose NTU.

I have always wondered how some courses for SIT can have 100% employability. Before graduating, all these students got snatched up like hotcakes?

Yeah more or less. Plus the IWSP/internship plays a part.

how is IWSP that special for SIT?

I mean most local uni also need to do intern or Final year research what?
some more most local uni people will self-source and do additional intern during summer anyway?

For some reason it is more likely to result in employment after graduation in SIT than other local unis.

no doubt some courses in SIT has really good employment rate, but I don't think IWSP is special in anyway as compared to other local uni.

What I meant is that the companies that SIT students work for during their IWSP are more likely to hire them than the companies that other local uni students work for during their own internships. And this contributes to SIT's higher employment rate.

From what I've heard it has to do with the firms that are sourced by or approached by the different schools, not due to SIT's IWSP being "special".

IWSP is a 1yr internship TOGETHER with capstone project that is tied with regards to devising a solution for the company
Its 1year of interaction with the company's employees & as well as devising solutions so if they can really solve the problem, wouldnt that amaze the staff already?

For NUS NTU SMU SUTD, the internship is only at most 3months? and theres no capstone projects or whatsoever tied to them?
So if the company didnt dedicate task/project to the intern then he/she somewhat is wasting his time there?
Or maybe just throw admin work to them

SIT is 1year
Other AU is 3months

lmao already big difference le still cannot see?

Please polish up on your maths if they are rusty. Im from poly eee to ntu eee, the engineering maths at uni is quite difficult compared to engineering maths from poly.

My friend with A level maths also find uni engineering maths somewhat tough, but i only ask about 10+ coursemates from jc. Not sure how others feel.

Maths skills is important, after modelling the circuits in maths, u can apply any maths method u know to solve.

Ntu eee it is easy to get in, and with decent effort, it is not that difficult to graduate with gpa 2 out of 5. The trick is to bear with it and get it through.
Dont quit uni.

However to score higher need to study and understand concept, as well as to manipulate them at your fingertips, with very good maths skills.

Must understand concept n apply, the questions will keep change, but the fundamental problem presented in the qn is the same.

After a few practice u can start to explore different method to solve, and will find short cut.
Some professor will not teach shortcut, they want us to derive the formula, use it to solve qn, then ownself realise the shortcut and limitations.

Lecture hard to cover in details, so have to ownself read lecture notes, if duno go borrow textbook and read. Try textbook examples as well if too free.
Tutorials must attend as mostly the details of the topic are in there. Try to do tutorial before class, then go in and clarify your doubts. Once u try yourself with pen and blank paper, you will know what you know and what u do not know.

Every step u do u will question yourself if u r correct or wrong. If don't understand the tutorial tutor, attend another additional tutorial of a diff tutor. Attend more also nvm.

Tutorial qn sometimes are past year exam qns. So it is good to test your knowledge.

As for the professional engineer part, some electrical power engineering modules which have engineering contents related to professional engineer are taught by professor who is a professional engineer.

They also get a practicing professional engineer to teach some of the other modules related to power engineering and Singapore's code of practice

where you heard from at most 3months? lmao.
people spend their free time during summer to do additional non-requirement 3 months internship every single academic year themselves.

I know are accepted by SIT, seemingly trying to justify that SIT is better than other university from all replies I have seen you in degree forum, but some comments are really over the top.

While someone from SIT can argue that they have 1 year of working experiences, NTU/NUS can also argue that they have much more internship at different companies with requirements to do intensive research at their final year. wouldnt that amaze the staff already?

Imagining sticking to a company for an entire year, some might feel it is enriching. Not to me, I would rather pick up many different skills from many different environment, not to mention, being able to 'pad' my CV.

If someone actually wanted to do internship for a year at NUS/NTU, they can themselves do that, don't even need a fancy name for it, it's just not a requirement.

Stop comparing unless you have been to all NTU/NUS/SIT. I think SIT is fine, don't have to over justify yourself to people.

Technical Engineer Diploma (TED) from ITE needs to go for their 6 months of internship after they finish all their academic modules & even Education Minister push for it.

However in reality, how do all view ITE compare to Polytechnic Diploma?

Anyways.
Wouldnt recommend someone to go to those SIT-OU courses as essentially they are foreign courses
(the degree is conferred under the name of the OU)

Want to go also go to SIT-offered courses as they are local just like NUS NTU SMU
They are also harder to get in compared to SIT-OU courses which are slightly easier

Anyways just got accepted into SIT Information Security
Waiting for SMU infosys offer as I went for their interview

Most likely will pick SIT IS

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since SIT-TUM gradudtaes have a degree that is indistinguishable from TUM graduates, wouldn't they be able to apply for PE under the statutes Part 3-Germany?

Maybe i will share my knowledge on ntu eee's internship program here.

There are three or more types of internship available for me to choose when i did my internship.

The first type is known as industrial orientation (now known as professional attachment), the second is industrial attachment (now known as professional internship), and the last one is industrial attachment w final year project.

Can read about it here:

www.ntu.edu.sg/CAO/IndustryPartners/Attachmentinternship/pages/default.aspx

I cannot intern at my own business entity(i have a sole proprietor and a partnership company at that time, even though one is related to electrical engineering and the other is construction/elect engineering).

The school allows us to find our internship company, however the company must be related to our course of study. I cannot intern as a chef when i study engineering.

The company has to meet the criteria set by the school and must have a supervisor who is prefably an engineer who can supervise the intern student. The company must also have a training plan for the student, and i believe the school will determine how related that plan is.

The school also has a list of companies that we can choose, and the computer system will help us send our resume to the company and the company will either call us for interview or just accept/decline. This is up to the company.

Every student under industrial orientation at that time will be paired with a professor who will be supervising the student.

The student under internship needs to submit a mini log book every two weeks. This log book must be signed and commented by the student's supervisor at the internship company, and submitted to the professor allocated to the student. At the end of the internship, the student have to submit a report as well.

Midway through the internship, the school will send a "grading" form to the student's internship company. The supervisor at the internship company will grade the student's performance according to the guideline written on the form. In general, the guidelines are about things like work performance, attitude, attendance etc.

The professor will have to visit the student at the company to meet the student's supervisor and student to find out how things are going.

What the students do at the company really depends on the company. I interned at construction company and i was working at a construction site. I was able to enter the work site as i have relevant safety pass which is recognised. I also have my own ppe like safety harness and landyard, so they will allow me to go to do wad im suppose to do.

The students have to complete a safety module in school before they are allowed to intern. Wsha and MOM take workplacr safety very seriously.

Yeah they would.

So the previous poster's point that SIT TUM isn't as good as NTU EEE because cannot become PE isn't valid then.

To me the main difference between SIT TUM and NTU EEE is 1) years of study (the earlier you come out, the earlier you start earning) 2) "campus life" (hostel life, proper ccas, side projects, friends are pretty much non existent here) 3) school fees.
