You may want to check out the following links on international recognition of both universities:

QS World Uni Rankings by Subject - Computer Science & Information Systems

NTU is more recognized by academics and employers in the international arena.

"Contents" is the key difference between Computer Science and IS management. Computer Science is a highly technical discipline that places "heavy" focus on Algorithms, Software Design Patterns, Software Architecture, Software Engineering, Data structure, high/low level programmings etc. Fresh graduates will have no problem securing jobs that require strong technical knowledge, they can easily work as software developers/engineers, consultants, system analysts, business analysts, database/system administrators, project officers - manage IT vendors etc.

Computer Science is a widely respected discipline, it is flexible to let you wear a variety of programmer hats (CS graduates have stronger programming background) and also do management. If you decide to change your mind in the future to take up positions that require strong "technical" knowledge (eg. in the area of AI, Neural network, Algorithm development/optimization, R&D etc.), you are going to wish you had a computer science degree.

Both Computer Science and ISM graduates can further their studies without a problem, provided that they do well in the undergraduate programmes. Computer Science graduates will find their strong technical knowledge useful when pursuing Master programmes in the area of computing.

You do not need to be Computer Science or ISM graduate to start a business. What u need are entrepreneur aspiration and business knowledge.

If I am in ur position, I will opt for NTU Computer Science (with business minor) and take up some IT management & IS electives.

Many of my friends who did Computer science are managing IT vendors in government stat boards, providing consulting services/managing IT projects in MNCs, teaching in Polytechnics etc.

Browse through the modules and compare to see which one you prefer and will enjoy studying. I would definitely opt for NTU.

On top of what the above posters have mentioned, please do take into account intangible factors such as student demographic, campus location and vibrancy.

I strongly believe SMU has a more balanced student population of Singaporeans with international students, as compared to the more slanted bias towards certain nationals in NTU Computer Science.

SMU also has a newer campus that is much more modern than what NTU offers.

Of course, the decision lies with you. Go with your heart.

Eh.....NTU is a one of the 2 largest public universities, with biggest campus in Singapore. Its Campus Master Plan, which is still in execution, is further transforming the campus into a "univer-city" with a bustling campus centre, new halls and trendy spaces that sustain new approaches to learning, research and relaxation. Currently, NTU has over 100 student organizations and houses its very own indoor and outdoor facilities such as Swimming pool, Sports Halls, Gyms and Table Tennis/Squash/Tennis courts. There are a host of events and activities in NTU, it is just whether you want to join or not. Student life is absolutely vibrant in a beautiful 200-hectare Yunnan Garden campus that hosted the Youth Olympic in 2010.

Like NUS, NTU has its fair share of international students. I have seen people from different cultures and they are from countries such as US, Japan, China, Korea etc.... Being a university that offers full spectrum of undergraduate/postgraduate courses, from Engineering, Education, Science to Business and Medicine, you get to meet people from various disciplines. Who knows, you might even meet your "other half" here in NTU :)

To be honest, in future if you are going to work in Singapore then ignore those ranking and don't care about the international students, it won't make any difference.

You should take a look and compare all the modules and see which one you are more interested and good in. No point study a course which you think has more prospects but you don't perform well in the grades.

Anyway, I think job prospects doesn't mean much in Singapore for local grads, it's either get employed or jobless.

I do not wish to go into a lengthy debate about NTU VS SMU.

You may win based on technicalities and facts presented in your post, I am not going to dispute that. All I would like to point out is, there is a reason why NTU is sometimes referred to as Nanyang Tiong University.

I didn't coin that term btw.

Peace out.

Since NTU offers many more courses than SMU, the number of China students in NTU appears many more too. China students are prominent in NTU as compared to other international students because they look very much like the locals and those from Japan and Korea. Currently, international students which include those from countries other than China constitute at most 20% of the overall cohort size, a cap that our government imposed in 2007 for all local universities.

I don't regard China student as a matter of concern or impedes the quality of the education received. In fact, my experience with them has so far been positive. They are friendly and easy-going people. There is also no correlation between the number of China students and the quality of the education delivered.
