NUS business analytics

hi all, m currently deciding btw SMU biz, NUS biz analytics and NTU double degree in biz and computer science. Initially I was more inclined in taking NUS Biz analytics, but NUS, NTU and SMU currently allow their biz students to specialise in biz analytics, so is the NUS deg still btr or does it make no diff ? also, I'm not too sure about job prospects of having a NUS biz analytics degree in Singapore as some have commented that the modules are too "mixed" and quite touch and go and doesn't allow students to be very skilled. there are no past year stats on employment rate for this course too as it's relatively new, hence I was wondering if any seniors studying NUS biz analytics can give some insights ? and also, is data science considered better in the sense that it is not as "rojak" ?thank you!

Yup ! Idk if data science and analytics would be a better choice .. given that q a number of students in biz analytics stated that they're planning to go into the data analytics field !

Hi, I have the same offers as you, except for NTU (I picked com sci). I can't decide too. I hope some biz analytics seniors can help give some advice on this?

Here's my 2 cents on biz analytics:
(Do note that these are based on what I learnt from my internships, do take it with a pinch of salt)

(1) I've been on 2 internships that are related to business analytics, and from what I can see, you don't really need to be "SUPER specialized" in IT or statistical skills to do well, having an analytical mind is more important. (But of course, it depends on which company you go to and the scope of your work.)

(2) Yes, I too feel that the modules are too "mixed" or "rojak", its all over the place. But it does cover a lot of the main topics in biz analytics. I just wished they covered a bit more on economics

(3) Biz analytics is new, there are no employment statistics available to conclude if the job prospects are good or not. However, in my opinion, the job prospects for biz analysts are a little grim (But, there are other jobs available for biz analytics degree holders, don't worry). From what I can tell, most medium-sized companies employ 2-3 biz analysts, and those positions are taken by people with other degrees (duhh, biz analytics a new course). But if people with other degrees can do the job just as well, then why is there a need for companies to choose biz analytics graduates over others?

if u wan deeper and more specialised skills, dont mix biz into it.

do a double maj/deg in stats + computing. the curriculum of the new data sci major in NUS FOS looks pretty decent too.

business acumen is something u can pick up on the job. dont waste ur time in uni on it.

Thank you so much for the detailed reply ! Now I feel pretty conflicted about biz analytics .. seems like a course whereby others can do my job in the future but I can't do theirs :-( some keep saying a double deg in CS + stats/math is better sigh .. may I know why you applied for NTU comp sci instead of NUS? Also, what's your preferred course currently ?
