Well saw another thread on CS queries and was in shoes of selecting courses 2years ago when started NUS journey. So yeah if any queries on the above course can ask will reply when free.:)

How intense is the curriculum?

Are there chances to do research and your own projects or is majority of the learning theory with little focus on practical?

Hmm coming from situation I had just gone through 2/3 years for NUS EE, to be honest there has been slightly more emphasis on practicals. There are also quite huge changes in the curriculum where my batch is the last batch for certain modules and more of revamped and renamed into new modules that current new batch have to face.

Have to say that curriculum is quite intense as I had hardly any free time to cope with modules taking up much of free time. There are also aspects of theory but honestly from most of core modules and year 1 modules I ended up with mainly calculation modules whereby a good foundation in maths and physics will really help you cope better in the learning process.

Sry late reply had exams till ended 2 days ago but yeah the workload depending if poly student since crash course 3 years the curriculum is totally ridiculous with some practical modules involving programming causing most frustrations while JC peers can learn from foundation with lesser modules taken every semester.

Well hints from there that the module I struggled most involve most programming so for my batch the module that is the hardest was EE2024 or programming for computer interfaces. This module literally from the get go we were thrown further knowledge of C language before given a PCB board to program with assembly language first project within 4 weeks after starting off with just 1/2 sessions taught basics from what was taught during lectures to cap off project 1. This also added with second half where though from lab sessions program individual features connecting PCB brain board to a base board with various sensors, we had to program according to what was required for project 2. Note from the above only counted to 50% weightage for the module, so where other 50% come from? Oh yeah the wonderful finals or exam for that module still came after programming those things like crazy so gotta check notes 2 different Lecturers covered and apply to the exam by grinding past year papers and even consisted of parts of paper when required to write code functions like assembly and C language during the exam. Easily the most nightmarish module took in my second semester of Uni.

Now they rename the module as EE2028 for newer batches but surely involve similar stuff to what I had gone through with som changes.

Feel free ask more other modules I had done. Think mentioned before that I matriculated 2016/2017 S1 and will embark on final year in August.😱

CS1010E mod? they replaced it wit IT1007 for EE.. what's the difference? is it harder?

Well main difference I observed is the programming languages you guys learn differs a lot from what I had learnt. While I learnt mainly C language from CS1010E, that new module covers python programming language as well so content may have more. Otherwise further details can check those who enrolled in NUS EE last August they are like guinea pig batch those new revamped modules for quite a number but content still quite similar to what I had learnt.

Haha one part for doing research own projects do come closer to final year where it is possible to have self initiated FYP find prof or someone for supervisor or staff projects where this period whole list of FYP projects to consider choosing which blur mostly individual for that particular project leap of faith from previous times.😂😭

one more qn NUS EE vs NTU EEE, is NTU easier? What are the diff?

Honestly both has own difficulties thought I mentioned differences before but firstly cohort NTU much greater so quality of teaching gotta question.🤔
Second got this SU system heard NTU can’t decide SU after result out so possibly suffer more as may SU module you might have fared better.
But otherwise feel NTU May have more modules to juggle during the semesters further details better someone from NTU EEE to elaborate.

What are your main reasons for choosing NUS EE instead of NTU EEE?

Why are your main reasons for choosing NUS EE instead of NTU EEE?

Well for myself 3 things stood out when looking at reasons. First is for NTU the school of EEE is end of bus loop so travelling to and fro school can be more inconvenient when travelling from home to either NUS or NTU.

Secondly I got uncles who somehow already graduated from NTU EEE in the past Feel more of a challenge to throw myself into NUS EE to see how it was like.

Third was cause cohort size smaller at NUS compared to NTU, at least the teaching hopefully better hence decided on NUS.

Forth was I mentioned earlier on SU system which led me to choose NUS.

However one key point for NTU good is there’s 6 months compulsory internship where for mine it’s restricted to 3 months internship which I I was given an opportunity to take on from next Monday. But do know tradeoff is making the curriculum more taxing.:O

I was from ntu eee, my colleague was from nus ee. We were discussing on some electrical stuffs and he told me he didn't learn on the cp5, cp88 while he was in nus.

I did learn a bit on cp5 and ss555 lightning protection and earthing cp13 or sth while in ntu. Not say having a lot of advantage, but some basic knowledge helps a bit.

Not sure if it is due to his specialisation thus he didn't learn.

Hmm for this cause maybe what we learnt more was towards communications rather than power from the kind of modules we learnt sometimes it’s based on how structure of course is like and some of those content is hidden within other breadth of depth modules and what classified as a ECE core module or year 1 module at NUS differs from NTU. Heard NTU’s killer core module was digital signal processing which closest we could learn is from an outer core or lvl 4000 module.

So advise those deciding between the 2 is type of curriculum they each offer and making do with what is learnt there.🤔

Hi. I have a few questions. Just wondering if there's more theory or practical? As for projects, more towards group or individual projects? How many percent of students can go for student exchange Programmes? If I want to do overseas internship, do I need to have decent GPA?
Thank you for noticing this thread.

Hmm well personally feel curriculum has its fair share of both practical and theory. Like for my curriculum first semester I had 2 programming modules in 5 modules with its mix of theory. But honestly the practicals are not as guided as those conducted in Polytechnic where lab sessions occur every week. The labs are literally grinding chambers graded in so many ways that I eventually prefer theory lessons where have time to review those contents at home.

Hmm projects from what I had experienced majority are minimally from pair work to a maximum of 4/5 member groups. Had one solo project for my first semester programming a board to carry out functions using mixture of verilog and C language. Other than that for pair work projects do mostly programming tasks or even practical assessments where we had to construct an antenna. Bigger group projects we had to prepare projects where we had to prepare presentation slides to present and compiling reports.

Hmm for percentage of students who go for exchange programmes heard that around 75% go for exchange programmes overseas though from my curriculum already too hard to go unless ppl want to map modules overseas and also costs money.

Overseas internship usually ask for ppl who can commit 3/6 months and usually might require higher CAP but highly dependent on how you can shine as applicant having relevant skills to be accepted to those posts. For NUS there is a portal to link those intern postings local and overseas.

Yeah pardon some parts but vague cause in 3 year programme so the journey in Uni is quite rushed and lots of opportunities quite restricted or requiring to further make workload more crazy.😂

Thank you for sharing so much information. I took a gap year to work in engineering company, feel a bit anxious to study again.

Haha feel that it’s always good to go little higher for education. Cause even from university currently able to get opportunity working 3 months internship from this week getting to learn and maybe apply some bits of what applies from Uni life but it’s a good foundation ofor other opportunities up to you to plan like special programmes etc more available for those undergoing 4 years programme like 6 months internship in different company as long as you got great skill set, experience and can perhaps be in a company you might aspire to be in. Hope this can motivate you to study in university again if this year application over might have to wait a year but just take time to decide where you wanna pursue. Do note once in Uni gotta be mentally prepared and know limits without overcommiting yourself as in the end grades still important.
Having dilemma myself over type of FYP to take on bit worried whether programming my cup of tea as well it’s quite crazy only few weeks to think and projects some did catch my eye. End of last paragraph greatly important as allocation FYP takes into account student CAP so some great projects might be popular.:O
Yeah have fun really salute to those in working world full time so much responsibilities.

Yes. Education is important. I have the offer, going for the open house on Sat. Wonder how it will be like to study there. All the best for your internship :)
