What he meant is people from China.. Not chiobu

Hmm well surely there are ppl from China but frankly from my cohort the percentage don’t seem a lot like yeah I do see some but won’t be more than 10-15% of cohort from China though with other nationalities shouldn’t surpass 20%. Note there are also exchange students from overseas from time to time so sometimes do seem like there are more foreigners sometimes. Hope that helps.🤨

Do we need to bid for our core modules in electrical engineering?

Core modules mostly are pre allocated before start of semester. Only ones need bidding will be outer core, breadth and depth modules from technical electives. General elective modules also must bid for some except some that is pre allocated. So generally the bidding system quite alright most parts.:O

Hi there! I will be enrolling into NUS EE coming Aug. I have a dip in aerospace electronics from NP and I believe there are module exemptions for my course in NUS EE? So does that mean my duration of study will be around 3 years as compared to maybe jc peeps who have to study around 4 years or so?

Think should be 3 years curriculum. When first enter you can first check the 2018/2019 NUS EE recommended schedule so you could check modules that you need to take for your first semester. From there should have tea session as well as orientation week to further clarify stuff on these matters. Hope this helps.

Laptops

Hi I will be enrolling in EE NUS this august and I am wondering what kind of laptop will I need? Is there any requirements that the laptop should have? For example, dedicated graphics card to run Autocad etc?

I am thinking of getting a thin and light laptop as the journey to uni is quite far and long, I don't want to be lugging a brick to school everyday.

I hope to hear your reply soon!

Hmm well laptop wise yeah first thing must not be too heavy as you since likely need bring for days got labs etc. From modules done hardly need Super high end graphics as you’ll mainly do coding certain different things. But regardless feel that minimum must be high Storage store quite a few different programs with processor powerful enough not to lag when running such software. Others will use in labs so no need download them unless required.

Okay thanks! On a side note any recommendations on which laptop I should get and is there such a thing as a laptop road show from NUS themselves?

Well I have been using an Asus Zenbook since year 1 of Uni and performance not bad. Um think usually NUS does organise a laptop roadshowbut think you could contact office of undergraduate admissions for details. Got my laptop through an IT fair at expo though was in December but problem was windows Microsoft word etc wasn’t provided till I went to school convert through NUS webmail provided which bit more hassle was required, before that was using the free type so slowly moved to word and PowerPoint etc.

Well oops forgot check forum for some time. Um GEQ only pass fail as Long complete required tasks it’s alright. Then GER is mainly MCQs with basics of statistics and probability but curve hard to score so fortunate ran away decent grade. GET my batch was forced to do 1021 which was critical thinking and writing for my batch. Lots of essay writing from start to finish ending off with exam but still capable if apply concepts taught well. GES I took last sem was GES1016 Singapore studies module (Comtemporary Social Issues of Singapore). So this one was pretty tough as I had to juggle a project last through semester only 5 tutorial sessions which involve discussion on topics. Then whole sem go through lectures went till the end vague hints then exam half MCs half essay so unfortunate tackled essay slightly off point so gave a B I ended up SU.:O Chose a GEH module for upcoming semester GEH1025 global environmental issues so will see how module goes with workload for myself Engineering professionalism module, that GEH with control outer core to juggle with FYP after completing my internship last Friday.

Well and of course there are easier GE modules that can be done but word of caution when it might be easier to do those, might be hard to fight the curve so you might find yourself wrong end of the curve if you’re not careful in selections. Hence for choices I had to pick GEH and GES, I looked at content I might be interested in before choosing after considerations to other things like module exam timetables, lesson slots and locations. So just advise to be careful even when choosing electives.

Hi! Sorry to dig up old thread haha, how do poly students fare since u guys take up a 3 year programme?
I heard many poly students from NTU EEE did not do very well as their math are not strong compared to JC students, wonder if its true for NUS EE also.
