NUS Mechanical Engineering vs NTU Aerospace Engineering

I am currently an 'A Level' student considering the above courses. My passion lies in space travel, flight and cars. My academic strengths are in physics and mathematics. I seek to have a career in the Aerospace sector/Automobile sector either locally or abroad.

Would like an opinion on which school i should apply for and why?

NTU's Aerospace Engineering adds a certain amount of prestige to your degree. TBH, the difference between NTU mech engine and NTU aerospace engine is pretty small. They are from the same school(MAE) and they learn pretty much the same things in year 1, 2 and part of year 3. As a mech engine student, you are also free to take extra aerospace modules too. But aerospace is really quite prestigious, and although the difference in courses may be small, they are also quite critical. Most of the students are all AAA students as well.

I would take NTU aerospace if I were you. Or even better, take NTU REP if you qualify. NTU has collaborations with Lockheed Martin and a few other aero companies as well. And if you look at the graduate employment surveys here:

NTU aerospace has a significantly higher median salary than NUS's mech engineering. NTU also has quite a strong emphasis on attachments for their engineering students that will be undertaken during term time. Not sure about NUS though.

If you want to keep you options open to both industries then go for mech eng.
Also, if you want to work abroad, I'll recommend NUS since it has a better reputation abroad.

NTU aerospace prestigious? I'm doubtful about how many people actually share that sentiment.

Mechanical engineering develop into specialize fields such as aerospace, automotive & etc.

I used to work as HR in aerospace industry & I recruit ITE graduates for the post of Technician if they are major in Mechanical or Aerospace but never Automotive & etc because they do not have the related basic skill & knowledge to kick start their OJT.

With a general engineering degree like Mechanical allow you to work in a lot of industry such as Construction, Marine, Facility Management & etc but a specialize engineering degree like Automotive/Aerospace will only limited you to work in Automotive/Aerospace related industry.

So if I am in your position, I will chose Mechanical over Aerospace to have more jobs to choice for my career advancement & prevent myself to become unemployed when the specialized industry decided to 'restructure'.
