NUS or NTU?

Hi guys, I'm offered by NUS and NTU for their humanities course. Heard from my friends that I should choose NUS because of its prestige and branding. Whereas NTU sounds like a university from China because of its name "Nanyang" and no where mentioned Singapore. And is it true that overseas employers and universities only recognise NUS as the only Singapore university?

If you are looking for employment in the local context, it doesn't matter if you are from NUS/NTU.

If you are looking for employment overseas, the private sectors does not care which university you graduated from. They care more about your skillsets.

If you want to apply for graduate school in the future, it doesn't matter too. Graduate schools only care about your honors class and whether you have published any research papers.

However, different school have different culture and teaching style, so pick one that you will enjoy.

I think the courses also matter. FASS allows you to choose your major. If you are still undecided on your major, fass gives you some flexibility. Hss does not.

If you want to apply for graduate school in the future, it doesn't matter too. Graduate schools only care about your honors class and whether you have published any research papers.

Not entirely true. A good brand name does help sime times for grad school admissions. Not a dealbreaker but definitely a factor,

Hi, I know students from both HSS studying in NUS and NTU and I can safely say that both schools are recognised by companies overseas. I trust that you can be proud of Singapore's educational standards with over 22,000 universities in the world and NUS and NTU are ranked amongst the top 100 if not higher. Regarding HSS, as I believe NUS has a longer history, it has better research citations overall and most arts students prefer FASS. in other terms such as medicine, business, engineering, it doesn't even matter since they are just as good as the other.

Bottom line, please CHECK THE CURRICULUM of each school before you decide. It's on their website and you can see which suits you more before you decide.

Agree with this. If you want to go to com science like MoxLotus, it's fine to choose NTU. but if you want to go to humanities courses, I'll still recommend NUS.

I heard from my friend, who also studied HSS in poly. She said that her lecturers advised her to go NUS FASS for their humans to NTU humans as it is better in terms of teaching and their profs.
