Consumers who reuse plastic bags for disposal of rubbish were grouped under the single category of "throw away plastic bags" in this NUS "research".

This cud b one of the reasons sum stewdents rather take risks to stay at Harvard rather than coming bk home for research 😁

I said it when they first announced charging for plastic bags: In Singapore, this is nonsense and virtue signaling. The vast majority of supermarket plastic bags are already recycled for waste disposal down rubbish chutes. They are then incinerated, and don't contribute to plastic pollution in the sea, etc. NOT using plastic bags when getting rid of waste down rubbish chutes will lead to noxious smells, vermin, and cleaning problems. It is time somebody at a high enough level got the message and killed this bag charging "green" initiative. There are plenty of other things that can be done that will actually improve our environment.

everyone just dump your rubbish in a pail and pour it down the chute
no need to bag them first

They never learn their lesson on 1 buck NTUC trolleys.

The problem was never truly solved. Despite the 1 buck, some ppl can just go ahead and ignore it.

Even better some of them kept the trolley instead.

It's clear imposing a minimal sum is not enough to deter ppl. It ends up in the hands of plastic bag makers becuz end of day, plastic bags are still being used.

If plastic bags have to be removed over time from the ecosystem then a more ''green'' and relevant product must 1st be on the market so ppl can switch over seamlessly. Without a ready product to take it's place, ppl will still end up using PBs, failing the original initiative and purpose.

And if it fails, it's best to simply stop it.
