my friend took it last sem under stats.. he said first half is very easy... but second half more challenging.

Hey guys im from year 1 going sem2. really torn btw taking MA2108 and MA2311 next sem. I'd rather MA2311 but that means I'll only take 2 core and overload in the sem after. Any suggestions?

MA2108 can be a terror for stats students, unless you are good at math proving (It is totally proving stuffs).
That said, MA2311 ain't that easy either, many of my friends were suffering for it.

I personally took 2108 last sem and did quite well for it.
I'm doing terrible for my stats mods tho... T.T

haha how come?? took a module under prof sun a couple of years ago, and he is one of the better profs. he is extremely patient and friendly, and can easily spend half an hour explaining a question 1 on 1 for you.

I enjoyed MA2108 although I am not good at it. But I have to warn you that the bell-curve may be steep

I am planning for my mods in my next 2 years now and I am thinking of risk mgmt / actuarial route.

Multivariate Stats Analysis and Stochastic 2, how important are these 2 modules? Did a brief research... it feels like both are useful...

for actuarial:
st2131 -> Exam P
ma3269 -> Exam fm
st3234 -> Exam MLC
st3246 -> Exam C

the impt thing is the exam, not the module u have taken... but certain modules will help u prepare for the exams.

wow that was fast :D
actually my question was referring to "life in general".

oh another question... what's the diff between ma3269 and ma3245?
mathematical finance vs financial math.

With effect from AY 2013/14 (new QF syallabus)
MA3269 replaces MA2222 / QF2101
MA4269 replaces MA3245
MA5245 replaces MA4257

Note that even though it's a *free* upgrade, it's not a one-to-one change. There is some overlap - the syllabus is modified to suit with the times.
