GPP is just a name. In the front, they can say that it's canned, however the practice will likely continue in the background. Intel did the same to provide "incentives" to those that use their processors.

tbh, current upper tier gen cards (esp 1080 and 1080ti) not hard to write good things about when it blows the competition aka AMD out of the water. cheaper, uses less power and performs better in current gen games lol.
