Have you tried formatting the SD card to NTFS? Shield K1 support FAT32 and NTFS format. FAT32 doesn't support 64GB and higher. 64GB card comes in exFAT format.

It has always been like this even on the original shield tablet. Set to minimum brightness 20 and the flickering will go away
