Ya man 1.4 firmware update managed to brick 500GB shield TV consoles.
Nvidia advised users to rma their set.
I was lucky I was 25Mb away to complete the download and then my spidy sense told me to check the net for any info on the new 1.4 updates

and the sad thing is the 1.4 updates is still there for users to update ? wtf pull the damn thing off the net already

I was tempted to update it because my shield TV just simply refuse to see my PC and I cannot stream PC games. Very frustrated it worked before , uninstall / reinstall GE force experience did not help.

Crap last resort , will reset to factory and start all over again

Just received my satv pro today. Should I upgrade it to firmware 1.4?
No. But if you don't, you won't know whether the hdd will uplorry soon or not. So it's up to you.

But long story short, if it conks up, then be prepared to ship it back to US at your own cost, then wait for Nvidia to receive it, then they will send a replacement to a US address, which you will have to ship back at YOUR OWN COST. It's going to cost a LOT.

Never again Nvidia. Never again.

It's their way of weeding out the faulty sets to RMA. So it's going to spoil sooner or later. No point delaying the inevitable.

That's not the problem actually. The problem is they don't RMA customers in SG directly. It's going to cost quite a bit to ship this heavy piece of crap over to US - they want the whole box with accessories iirc.

That depends....those who received their RMA have said it works better....so it's most probably a hardware problem. Since it bricked only some sets, can't be a firmware excuse.

So for me, I returned mine to Amazon. They kindly took it back even past the 30 days limit. Took a USD$60 hit for their restocking fee. Shipped it back via Singpost - S$120. Went online to inform Amazon about it, they refunded me the return shipping charges.

That's how customer service should be done. Even the US$60 didn't feel so bad because of how they handled the entire fiasco. F*ck Nvidia.

Anyone thinking of getting this, stay away from the Pro. It's really not worth the trouble of playing russian roulette with Nvidia hardware.

haiz ... frak nvidia x10 I saw the geforce forum thread. real heartless *******s those nvidia leeches

Amazon continues to respect and treat customers right . kudos to them.

I just bit the bullet , upgraded to 1.4
turned out I 've got a bit of luck, first boot everything seems ok. Testing netflix now, seems like the video has a bit of frequent jitter. Minor annoyance, going to read up on how to rectify this

did a prior windows updates prior to 1.4 upgrade. Suprisingly it solved my unable to detect PC issue.

now everything seems fine. hopefully subsequent reboot everything will remain fine :o

I got my 2nd Shield TV (16gb version).

The system update is incremental, therefore I was able to update to v1.3, and then v1.4 is prompted. I then turn off System Updates" app notification so that I don't see the "Update available v1.4"

Unfortunately, I forgot to disable google play store auto-update apps, so my Netflix is updated to the latest version.

Looking for ways to downgrade to Netflix v2.2 now. If anyone found a solution, please share. Thanks!

Quick question...

If I use game streaming from PC, while doing so, will I still be able to control the game using the wireless keyboards/controllers/mouse connected to the PC (not the shield)?

EDIT: Maybe to also add on, can I have a scenario where I bring my wireless mouse/keyboard/controller (still connected to the PC and receiving signal) to the couch and also use the provided shield controller to play a 2 player game?

I managed to change the SATV play store to US, by using a free trial VPN app found on the SG play store. Once I switched the ip to US, I went to system apps > select Google play > clear data & cache.

Now open the play store, and you should be able to find Netflix as confirmation that you're in US play store.

Yes your keyboard n mouse plugged to pc will still work.

ShIeld controller will always be detected as controller 1, so this might require some homework. But it sounds very possible.

Confirm Nvidia will not cover any shipment burden at all?! I mean, they must have some responsibility returning faulty unit

Just to share, I'm using the Amazon fire stick remote, and I highly recommend using it with shield tv. It works so well, with rewind, forward and play button.

The fire stick remote is usd 15, but waiting time is 2-3 months.

Those who didn't order the shield remote can consider this.

I personally think it's better with the additional forward rewind play/pause buttons.

For those interested, the Fire TV Stick remote is back in stock now.
The fast forward, rewind, play/pause button works with Netflix, Youtube, Kodi, and almost all apps.

Do not get the Fire TV VOICE remote, it doesn't work with the SATV.

Free 1-year VPN, repost from another user.

Best part is don't need to sideload the VPN app. Can find from SATV play store. I've used this to switch the google play store from SG to US succesfully.

SIC Free VPN .. (F-Secure Freedome VPN) On Playstore APK

1) Make a free account at f-secure safe (https://mysafe.f-secure.com/register[1] ).

2) On the My Safe page click f-secure freedome

3) click Generate a voucher and copy the code generated.

4) Install Freedome VPN on your device(DL from playstore)

5) Select Redeem Code

6) Key In the Generated Code obtained earlier

7) Profit the 1 year Sub.
