WD Black beats the Samsung SSDs in power efficiency. It's a top tier SSD but for some reason not as popular as Samsung.

it's not NVMe... i considered getting M.2... but checking my notebook specs i think it is only able to take M.2 after sacrificing wifi... even if sacrifice wifi it mentioned that M.2 slot can be used as "cache" so i am not sure if it could even support M.2 drive...

hence in the end i went for SATA3...

Uh... M.2 is just the form factor. M.2 drives can come in SATA versions and NVMe versions (like the Samsung 970 Evo), which describes the bus they use to electrically communicate with the other PC components.

Both M.2 Sata based SSDs and M.2 NVMe SSDs uses the same M.2 port just that NVMe is the one letting you fully utilize the speed the port provides as long as the M.2 port on your PC supports NVMe.

In other words, high chance your M.2 port can support NVMe drives but you bought a SATA based SSD instead.

That's the question i asked before, can a NVMe be use on a M2 slot esp the M2 is from the Z97 era since that time, NVMe are still not common.

Sata M.2 n PCIe3x4 M.2 are keyed differently.

The latter, only B key.
The former, B+M key.

Not sure if sata m.2 will fit into a m.2 slot meant for PCIe3x4

Its keyed(notched) in a wayU can't put a PCIe3x4 ssd into a m.2 slot that is only for sata.
