NVME SSD Gurus

Guys,

I just purchased a 960 Evo NVME SSD and a bit confused on which m2 slot to install in. I have 2 M2 slots to install and currently its installed on the 1st slot. However, SATA Port 0-3 is disabled and my second storage drive is on Port 5.

Looking at the above diagram from my Gigabyte Motherboard manual, it says in the first box under M2 PCIE SSD X 4, there is a note that says that PCIE X 4 SSD runs at X2 speed. Does this mean my new 960 EVO is not running at full speed if its installed on the first slot? Any help would be great.

I am using a single drive so only the first 2 tables are relevant.

Just run a quick speed benchmark will know whether you are running at its max. Also download samsung magician software also can tell you the current speed its running at.

It's showing 3342mb/s read and 1965mb/s write under the Samsung Magician software which is exactly the specs of this SSD. Thanks for your help!

M2D slot will only run @ PCI-E 2x speed.

You need to use M2H slot to maximise the performance of the 960.

From what I understand, both slots are the same.
I am getting advertised speeds on my M2D slot. Highly doubt M2H slot will run any faster.

Basically,M2D disables some of your SATA ports for bandwith while M2H runs your 3rd PCIE slot from x16 to x8 or something. I have confirmed and checked Port 0-3 does not detect any drives after installing the NVME M2 SSD.

I would have used the M2H slot but the location under the graphics card is gonna run the M2 SSD toasty for sure.
