Did you subscribe to e-statements or still paper ones? You might want to check your spam folders or if you had accidentally thrown away the bills in the letterbox. I had a similar experience as you with Standchart. Cancelled my card thought everything is done. A month later they sent me the e-statement for the month. I checked there was an unpaid transaction due in a few weeks. Luckily I didn't just trashed it.

Since there are still outstanding transactions prior to card closure they are still required to send you the CC bills.

Checked. Last e-statement received Jun 4.

it's in their business model to leech money from you. else how do they earn their billions? look at the late payment charges... interest charges... look at the rates, you know already.

bad luck for you but hope you manage to get the outstanding amount written off "in good will" (that's what they like to say).

as a local bank, one of the big 3, I also think that they are quite poor in customer relations. in fact it's the non-local banks that seem to have better customer services.

The merchant posted 2 transactions after cancelling the card. Blame OCBC for this? Its normal practice that some merchant don't post the transaction the same day the transaction is made. Its up to you to look out for it.

If they blocked the transaction, what if it was something important... like a Telco bill, then you would be complaining that OCBC blocked your telco bill and the telco imposed late charges on you?

:s13:

Exactly. Sometimes it takes up to a week for the transaction to be posted.

Ocbc is notorious to be particularly strict on these fees compared to other banks in singapore, as reflected in other threads.

In this case, cso did not reiterate that late charges are still pending before the call ended. They have misled customer thinking that once card is cancelled, everything is cleared, and caused the misunderstanding. This is a miscommunication fault by ocbc

are u in the call?

ts obviously tried to mislead the naive, did not anything about the cso saying that the late charges are waived on cancellation. then ownself made the call to pay only 33bucks and expect matter to be resolved.

such trash no money dont use card la

How did you know he did not verify? We can only tell he he did not know. Cso could have done better to explain that outstanding charges will still be there even with the cancellation. So it is miscommunication by OCBC

They did not mislead customers who did not understand the Terms and Conditions when they signed up for the cards...

The TS just assume that cancelling his card would result in his late payment charges being waived...Why did the TS not check with OCBC before cancelling his card if his late payment charges will be waived off?

He just make his own decisions and conclusion about cancelling the card without verifying that he is no longer liable for the late payment charges...

Ignorance cannot be used as a defense in the Court of Law...End of the day, it is a one-sided story from the TS perspective...I believe that OCBC might have the call recordings and if it somehow contradict whatever the TS claims, he should be prepared for any possible legal actions from OCBC if they choose to pursue the matter...

So how did you know that it is all miscommunication by OCBC?The burden of proof falls on the TS as he is the one accusing OCBC as Cheats...

If u have outstanding balance, the bank couldn’t close the account. If CSO tell TS account is close, then the bank should be responsible. You can’t blame TS pertaining to the account if it is closed. How does he know whether there are outstanding balance if he didn’t receive his statement?

To be honest; our postal services is world class. I received my neighbor statements in my mailbox. My neighbor also received mine. Seriously quite cock up.

Having said that, banks are blood suckers.....if u r down and out, they will give u a kick . Lol!

Eh, those known charges like the late fees or what, they should let TS know it will still be there and thus need to be settle before closing the account.

But I think there are 2 more transaction after the closing of the account, this 2 transaction may or may not be banks' fault since it may be the case that the transaction haven't been posted from the merchant side.

Or am I confused?

Banks can see the unposted transactions too

While it's TS's fault for assuming that he's not liable for late charges after cancelling the card, I have no love for OCBC. Launch what transparency campaign as an excuse to be assholes to customers

Nobody knows what's in that call.
If OCBC had been clear and good in communication, TS wouldn't be TS.
So it is OCBC's lapse of professionalism.
You working for ocbc or some dirty spy?

Your logic and conclusion are not sound. It is also possible that OCBC was clear in communicating with TS, and TS missed it.

his logic is "customer is always right"
the bank can explain 100 times, if the customer still don't get it, it's always the bank's fault
that's why the bank has t&c to protect itself

I really like your LOGIC...

Starting with "Nobody knows what's in that call"... then you go straight into alleging OCBC didn't do a good job of communicating :s13::s13:

And then anyone who disagree is "some dirty spy or works for the bank"??

:s13::s13::s13: How to take you seriously??
