I'm amazed by your level of understanding skills
If ocbc has done a good job, why did TS start this thread? Obviously TS was misled by ocbc

I really like your LOGIC...

Starting with "Nobody knows what's in that call"... then you go straight into alleging OCBC didn't do a good job of communicating :s13::s13:

And then anyone who disagree is "some dirty spy or works for the bank"??

:s13::s13::s13: How to take you seriously??

That's only possible if TS got hearing problems. We dont see pple calling ocbc a cheat everyday despite so many unhappiness about ocbc in many threads. So a big possibility is the cso simply cancelled the card and put down the phone without proper information given to ts.

Your logic and conclusion are not sound. It is also possible that OCBC was clear in communicating with TS, and TS missed it.

i think your decision to cancel the card in jun causes the acct to be removed from internet banking and subsequence jul, aug bill statements

anyway, if u read moneymind regularly, u will know that ocbc is the bank with the least goodwill given with regard to waivers

This is the stupidity part on the bank. I do not know what is the behavior, but I have seen in other bank (cannot recall which one) that the eStatement stop when the account is closed.

And with now aday everything goes eStatement, how then the customer see the final statement?

Depends if the bank knew about the last 2 transaction when the request to close the account was done. If merchant haven't charge yet, bank wouldn't know.
Either way, OCBC could have handle this better when informed.
TS also have no right to call them cheats unless they know about those 2 last transaction.

The bank should know there is pending settlement transactions. This is why I like Citibank because they show pending settlement transactions also.

totally agree that OCBC should inform OP that there are 2 pending settlement transactions when he decided to close the account.

Did OP receive a letter of the account closure? For any account closure there should be a letter being sent out.

Nobody knows what's in that call.
If OCBC had been clear and good in communication, TS wouldn't be TS.
So it is OCBC's lapse of professionalism.
You working for ocbc or some dirty spy?

Nobody knows what's in the call followed by if OCBC have been very clear and good in communication...This kind of logic is just trying to argue for the sake of arguing with no rational thinking...If the TS did not want to clarify on whatever he does not understand it becomes OCBC fault? There is the Terms and Conditions that the TS signed when he agreed to sign up with the bank... What's next? Blame OCBC or any banks or even anyone when you sign up for a Term and Conditions that you don't understand?

The burden of proof false on the accuser and not on the one being accused...

So now I suddenly work for OCBC? Last week I was accused of working for DBS/POSB...Next week I'm going to be accused for working in what bank?

Edit: By the way, if you want to troll, please post in EDMW, not in Money Mind...

aiya, it's all in the t&c that we agreed on when we sign up the card lah

9. LIABILITY OF CARDMEMBERS
9.1. LIABILITY OF PRINCIPAL CARDMEMBER
If you are the Principal Cardmember, you are liable for and must pay us on demand the outstanding balances (whether incurred by you or the Supplementary Cardmembers) on your Card Account(s), including all sums and charges effected or debited to any and all Card Accounts in accordance with this Agreement (whether before or after the termination of the use of any Card or Cards). You are jointly and severally liable with each Supplementary Cardmember for such part of the outstanding balance in connection with his/her Supplementary Card.

can we blame the bank and says no one will actually bother to read all these lengthy t&c one lah :s13:
or blame the bank for not explaining to us all these t&c one by one b4 we sign up the card?

no case to fight with the bank at all lor unless the cso did say all those charges will be gone once card is cancelled
admit mistake and beg for waiver maybe higher chances of getting goodwill

TS can also just pay up with his head held high and bring all his banking to other banks (not that the bank will care much thou)
btw, other banks will also have this similar clause in their t&c but at least TS learnt a lesson from this

OCBC is the one of the few and maybe only bank which will not waive the late payment charge. Sure it's in the T&C, within their rights and what not.

Anyway, just close all accounts with OCBC since they don't value our biz, it's not like they offer anything special/ value add.

The only strangle hold they might have is the NTUC plus visa. which is tricky if you are member.

I cancelled the card cos they (ocbc) refused to waive annual fee. no big deal for them.

no big deal for me either. you don't need to have the visa card to get the link points for ntuc plus. can get the free card from ntuc directly.

... just stay away from any dealings with ocbc, unless you are the kind that is very, very careful not to fall into those traps of late payment, overdraft, etc.

I have an NTUC PLus Visa with no annual fee.

I missed the payment due date inadvertently. The bank called me up the next day and I apologised and said I will pay immediately and there was no late payment penalty.

In another incident, I did not pay for 2 charges which I am sure I did not incur and wrote to them. The next statement showed unpaid balance for the 2 bills with interest charge and the interest charge kept compounding as I also did not pay the interest charge. Finally, the issue after 3 months was resolved and all interest reversed and they replaced my card to prevent the issue from resurfacing.

thats why i blacklist ocbc, they are super strict on annual fees and late charges, i have cc and deposits with every single bank in sg except OCBC

Seems to be the case as previously read in their FB about difficulty to get the credit card annual fee waived.

For me OCBC have been waiving my Robinson card for a few years even with only 0-5 small transactions in total yearly, except for this year. My only qualm is I called in to cancel the card but there was no attempt to retain me, which ended my last relationship with them.

U are always questioned if u worked for any bank simply because your motives and integrity are always questionable.

That's shortsighted. Not waiving these fees simply drive away many customers like what ocbc is doing now and losing a lot of revenue.

If you are a shareholder, you will hoot them at AGM for waiving off Late Payment Fees and Annual Fees every year...

OCBC Group First Quarter 2018 Net Profit up 29% to S$1.11 billion...

OCBC Group Second Quarter 2018 Net Profit
Up 16% Year-on-Year to a Record S$1.21 billion...

Maybe OCBC is really shortsighted and "losing a lot of revenue."

Look guys (I'm the TS).

When you log in OCBC internet banking. First thing you see is:

What you have (Assets)

What you owe (Liabilities)

BIG BIG.

If you cancel card, and pay what was advised to pay by Card Centre customer service for outstanding and also demanded for waiver upon card cancellation. And then a few days later you see under 'What you owe (Liabilities)' no more, disappear, is $0.00. What will you think? Will you think bank is still charging you for credit card? Will the average customer be led to believe that they owe nothing? Case closed?

Taking away this info under the header 'What you owe (Liabilities)', when actual case is not closed and then hitting customer with fees even though he has duly exercised payment responsibility is CHEATING DISHONEST BEHAVIOUR, PERIOD.

EVEN LOAN SHARKS BOTHER TO REMIND YOU IN YOUR FACE.

Now I know what's the problem... You demanded the CSO to waive off the late charges...Did the CSO confirm with you that the acceded to your demands? Or did you just hang up after stating that you will pay the outstanding amount and wanted to terminate the card?
