Recently tried to close one of my accounts but the branch manager told me not to. He said, and I quote, "Retain this account. There will not be any fees imposed even if there is $0 in it. I suggest you keep it for future use."

I still asked him if he was sure. And he confirmed it again and again.

Well guess what. 1 month after that, I was charged

FEE CHARGE - 2.00
SERVICE CHARGE - 7.50

Now I'm being charged an additional $48 for overdraft fees.
Basically I'm being penalised for their mistake.

Sent a secured mail to them. Took almost a month to reply.

Their reply email tells me how much are their charges and tai ji me to their hotline again.

Tried calling OCBC hotline. Useless. Lines forever busy.

Well done OCBC.

Do note that banks always have a conflict of interest with customers... For any knowledge given by them, I will always double check... Dun trust bank managers... Name or title are nothing... Only service is important.

Even if it is free, close it there and then since you got no use for it.

That was my intention but the branch manager kept insisting that I should keep the account. Given that there was a super long queue I just let it slide. Now that I'm overseas, it's almost impossible to get to them via the hotline.

There a trend of complaints against everything including against own parents.
There are various complains against all the banks here. Recently, after OCBC had their own thread and sponsor this forum, the number against OCBC is higher.

I'm just puzzled. :D

You should take down the branch manager name and complain against him. Now a day all bank takes a service charge when your deposit amount drop below certain value.

Not surprising. They highlighted themselves. Those with poor encounters with then will be reminded of it & take the chance to voice their grievances
