Thanks OCBC. It is a struggle to accept that LV in Singapore is eligible for 10x whilst the overseas branch is not. Given it is the same group, I thought it is more intuitive to reward the customer in a consistent manner. The MCC code isn’t something we can check ahead of purchases unfortunately.. It may also vary from one city to another depending on the registration of the corporation.

Hi angmokiogal,

Thank you for your feedback.

Do allow us to share that, like yourself, the bank is unable to advise beforehand whether a certain merchant is classified under a said MCC/category, as they are ultimately determined by the merchants and the respective card associations.

That said, we understand where you are coming from and are hence looking to award relevant LV purchases with 10X OCBC$ moving forward.

We have also shared this with the relevant department.

We hope this clarifies.

Hi, are Watson's and guardian under the personal care category?

What are examples of merchants under this category?

Hi Trent_83,

Both Watsons and Guardians are under the personal care category.

These category of merchants are classified under MCC 5912: Drug Stores and Pharmacies as per the terms and conditions.

We are unable to provide more examples of such merchant. They should however be merchants that are ostensibly drug stores and pharmaceutical in nature.

If you have made a purchase at such a merchant, feel free to call us at 1800 363 3333 and we’ll be able to let you know if they will be awarded with 10X OCBC.

Hi sgbanking,

We are not privy to the merchant's MCCs.

However, as the transaction has been made, our executives will be able to look into your account to advise on whether they were/will be awarded 10X OCBC$.

Do give us some time while our executives reply to your message.

Below is reply from OCBC:

Customers are able to get 10x OCBC$ for local, overseas, online and
offline spend on the following categories:

* Departmental stores
* Bags
* Clothes
* Shoes
* Electronics

The bank identifies transactions and their categories via codes
assigned by Visa. These are not decided by the bank but rather the
merchants and their acquiring banks. If your merchant classifies
themselves under a category that fall in our list of excluded
transactions, it will not be eligible for the rewards.

Here are the list of accepted MCC to enjoy the 10x OCBC$:

MCC 5311: Department Stores
MCC 5611: Men’s and Boys’ Clothing and Accessories Stores
MCC 5621: Women’s Ready to Wear Stores
MCC 5631: Women’s Accessory and Speciality Stores
MCC 5641: Children’s and Infants’ Wear Stores
MCC 5651: Family Clothing Stores
MCC 5661: Shoe Stores MCC 5691: Men’s and Women’s Clothing Stores
MCC 5045: Computers, Peripherals, and Software
MCC 5732: Electronics Stores
MCC 5699: Miscellaneous Apparel and Accessory Shops

For your transactions below, these transactions will not be eligible
for the bonus rewards:

MICHAEL KORS T2 SINGAPORE SGP (MCC 5948)
LITTLE COLLINS (MCC 5944)
KATE SPADE NEW YORK-T3 (MCC 5948).

Clearly Michael Kors & Kate Spade are bags whereas little collins is Pandora shop on little collins street (women's accessory) and yet they are not considered for bonus 9X points just because MCC is not part of OCBC's list, though I'm willing to produce receipt/photo proof for purchased items.

This is rather discouraging for customers because we only know the business nature of the shops we visit and the items that we purchase, thinking that they are eligible for 9X points but eventually turned out all the spendings are not part of the 'eligible mcc code' which we do not have clue at all.

Hence I would suggest people to turn to Citi Rewards card for any fashion related purchase because so far I haven't experienced any issue with 10X rewards points with citibank, as long as the shops are selling fashion related stuff as you see with your bare eyes, no need to worry about MCC or other nonsense.

OCBC Titanium might only be good for mobile payment (or it can be replaced by other UOB mobile payment cards), not good for swipe-card transaction in stores since very likely your big ticket item will turn out to earn NO bonus points at all, with the customer support repeating the list of 'eligible MCC code' and let you know they cannot help further...

Hi Trent_83,

Watsons and Guardians are examples of merchants under MCC 5912 which is eligible for 10X OCBC$.

Eu Yan Sang and Hock Hua might be classified under medical/practitioners MCCs, and that does not give 10X OCBC$.

Transactions at clinics should not give 10X OCBC$.

Strange mien took less than 4days

I think two factors played here - first, I am on Employment Pass. Secondly, my credit report with FIN number does not have any credit cards (which I have >8) listed because all of them were associated with my passport number.

So seems OCBC requested my credit report and sees GX and no credit information there. Obviously not a standard situation. So took some time to sorted out.

Hi fuschia,

Do allow us to clarify that 10X OCBC$ is awarded if merchants and the respective card associations, classify themselves under one of the 10X OCBC$ eligible categories.

For Microsoft, they might be classified under 'Software' categories. May we clarify if you are intending to purchase hardwares or softwares?

Hi AMD_FREAK,

If you make the telco bill payment via Apple Pay at the Starhub shop, it would give 10X OCBC$.

If you are making payment via the card itself using payWave, it would not give 10X OCBC$.

Hi OCBC

I am considering buying a hardware (laptop), hence checking first if the transaction would be accorded 10x points.

Thanks.
