Hi guys,

I'm an IB student who will be graduating this year in May from an international school and enlisting some time in the end of the year. I am PES A, Singapore Citizen, with high IB predicted scores above 42/45 (so my final IB scores will probably also be high). I will be able to get a Silver probably in NAPFA. I am really interested in joining a command school, and I feel I have a strong educational background for it. However, I understand that there are many other important factors in joining OCS/SCS. What can I do from now to give me maximum chance of joining a command school? What should I do in BMT to get selected into OCS/SCS? Is a Silver good enough to get OCS? Thanks in advance for the help. As an international school student I don't know much about NS so would appreciate it a lot.

Signing on will probably in some shape or form put you in an implicit advantage.

Btw training in the early days is not all about education level. You can be some genius, but if you are not in for that kind of training and regimentation, you need to reconsider.

Sorry for the ignorance, but what exactly do you mean by 'signing on'?

You can be a scholar but if you do not have the necessary attitude/fitness, you won't be able to get it. But based on experience with people, quite a handful of PES A usually ends up in command school unless they are terribly screwed up.

More like that will almost definitely be people from PES A/B1 that ends up in command school, because these are the only 2 PES command school can draw from. So it's like a given. Hence TS meets the basic requirements so does a lot of others.

Pass ippt and express interest in command school during bmt and do okay okay during sit test 90% chance go command school if you are in the leadership batch. Not very hard tbh.
Thanks for the answer. Can you please explain what is the leadership batch?

Generally people with at least a local poly diploma, they will be posted to leadership batch which includes SIT test for a chance to go command school.

People who doesn't meet the education criteria usually will be posted to standard batch or mono intake without SIT test component, doesn't meet the necessary criteria to go into command school because of that. But there are rare cases

Right, so once I get my IB diploma I will be placed in leadership batch right?

Surely will be in leadership batch. Chances to be in OCS/SCS depends on your BMT performance and probably security clearance(i dont know how they check).

As an IB diploma student & international school student, you will be placed amongst other international school students. You will NOT be placed with those from ITE/Poly, next to impossible. Your section will most likely include Singaporeans who have returned from overseas to join NS.

All of the international school students that are returning from overseas will have a next to 100% chance to get into SCS/OCS from what I've learned and based on statistical information that I've had over the past year or so.

Also it doesn't matter if you're in a leadership batch or not, so long as you're an IB diploma student as well as an international school student you will go to either OCS/SCS.

MINDEF tends to treat us better, as they wanna retain us since we're more valuable.

There's a company specifically for international school students? Because from what I know, there are international school students or people from overseas (actually also depending on their education level) ending up in batches with poly/JC. ITE and others usually no cause usually they are in standard batches. So quite curious how you arrive at this conclusion.

I am not sure whether you are confused about the requirements. People have a shot at getting into command school by virtue of them being in leadership batch. And people usually are in leadership batch by virtue of their education level. You might not have note the difference. It's always possible for international school students who only finish the equivalent of PSLE or not even complete the equivalent of O level ending up not being in leadership batch hence not have a shot at command school. And where about did your statistical information come from?

This is even more absurd, please provide statistical evidence to back yourself up.

How do you come to this conclusion also?

Did I specifically say a company? I said a section. I said the fact that he is BOTH an international school student AND and IB diploma student he will get into command school.

MINDEF does this to help ease international school kids into the military lifestyle by placing them in a groups of international students.

It's next to impossible for international school students who only finish PSLE and end up in NS, how did you arrive at that possibility? It doesn't make sense. I mean if you do know of any, sure you have a point; but at this point you're just hypothesising.

Those not in leadership batches will still go to command school, provided they are IB diploma students as well as international school students who have returned from overseas to complete NS.

My information comes from juniors from an international school and the various platoon commanders posted to BMTC.

It was a question. Then now I look at it again, you did indeed say section. Pardon me for that. So you are claiming that... If a person is both and international school student and IB diploma student he will DEFINITELY get into command school?

You mean there's one section or a few sections that's made up entirely of people from international school?

You do know that there are international school that caters for people from P1 or equivalent all the way up to J2 or equivalent right? Who say go international school = sure means complete education up till J2 or equivalent? There can always be dropout and they are just like any other non international school students. So I am definitely not hypothesising, I am stating a very possible scenario.

??? non leadership batches will still go command school by virtue of them being IB and international school students?????????? u sure??????

Ok given that you you definitely know people in those cases, but what makes you think those "few" people you know is representative of the entire NS population?

Thanks for the info. You said " Those not in leadership batches will still go to command school, provided they are IB diploma students as well as international school students who have returned from overseas to complete NS." However, I am a student at an international school in Singapore e.g. OFS, UWC, TTS (don't want to disclose). This is what I meant by international school (i.e. non local school in Singapore). Does this change my chances to go to OCS?
