Never had this problem before so don't know if it "just happened" or its some bug with the latest OS or Safari.

In the past we could add bookmarks to the "main" area i.e. not the favourite bar or the other folders but just the main area. Now I can't. I am only given the option to add to favourites or all the other folders.

Anyone else get this or knows how to resolve this?

The Favourites is the root of your bookmark entries or folders. Use the Show Favourites bar in the View menu to display your bookmarks as a menu bar.

Okay this is what my bookmarks look like right now:

You see the Bellroy wallet bookmark at the end? Okay in the past whenever I add a bookmark, they would always end up at the bottom i.e. after Bellroy. Unless of course I chose a specific folder e.g. Online Banking or iPhone then it goes there. But default was always at the bottom of the list where you see Bellroy and the others which I blanked out.

Now recently, I don't know if OS Sierra is the cause, whenever I want to add a bookmark, I am unable to add to the bottom. At first I thought maybe I accidentally changed the default location so I went in to check and saw this:

You see the tick next to Online banking? That is the default now. I can only opt to save new bookmarks either in Favourites (which means it shows up in my Favourites toolbar) or into any of the folders. I can't save right at the bottom like what I did for the Bellroy wallet previously.

I remember last time when I added a bookmark a menu "add this page to" would pop up and there was where I could root of my bookmarks (forgot what that option name was called) or a specific folder or Favourites toolbar but now it just gives the option of Favourites or any folder. I can no longer save right at the bottom, which I believe is what victorp calls "the root".

Does anyone else face this issue? As a temporary work around I now save in Online Banking folder first then edit and move it out which is obviously not very efficient.

It seems you are accessing your bookmarks via the Bookmarks menu or from the Sidebar. If you want to access the bookmarks like a menu bar, you need to move them into the Favourites folder and you need to choose Show Favourites Bar. Maybe this Apple support link will help you...

I think it's due to the limit of bookmarks that can display from the toolbar.

You try removing some bookmarks and try again if it works?

I've had even more bookmarks before. By the way its not the tool bar leh, its the drop down menu. I use my iOS Safari as e.g.

When I want to save bookmark, it gives me the option to save in Favourites toolbar, in Bookmarks or in any of the folders. My default as indicated by the blue tick is Bookmarks. Once saved there, it appears right at the bottom after all the folders.

Last time on OS X when I save bookmarks I was given a similar option and I chose Bookmarks as well and the bookmarks were all saved right at the bottom after the folders too.

But as you can see from my other screen caps, now its like the option to save in Bookmarks is missing. I'm only given the choice between Favourites toolbar and the folders.
