Hey there
I have an old pc that my dad wants to reuse an Acer aspire M5711 desktop core2quad Q8300 2.5ghz gt120gddr2 4gb Ram. He want to fix it since the gfx is spoilt, is it possible to upgrade the gfx with the current oem mobo? and what gfx should i look for that would be compatible with it?
Hi there have done it before.
However the only part that i re-used was the CPU, RAM, DVD, HDD and maybe some of the casing fans. Small but RPM quite high.
Firstly, because the desktop had been using for around 3 years, so likely it would spoil very soon. So no point to use the motherboard.
Now if you dun use the "Default MB" you have to get a new MB of the market. That would cost you by $75 dollar the cheapest, MSI P41-Combo (Comes with integrated graphic). From Tradepac.
You would also need to change the casing as the old motherboard is bolted down to the casing.
Now you need to get a reasonable price Casing also which cost you around $45?
So $75 +$45 ($120) gets u a fairly reliable computer for another 3 years seems like a good deal?
Of course once you go DIY, there are other component that you could consider.
1. PCI-E Wireless card - $35
2. SSD 128GB - $ 149
3. Windows 8 - $120
Yeah, but there is one limitation, and that is if you add a wireless card, you could only add a single slot graphic card, due to the configuration. Best you go is a AMD 7750 low profile card.
