There are a few websites offering offbeat, unique travel experiences. Thought I should share my list of pros and cons for each one.

Vayable (vayable.com)
Pros: Very in-depth Europe offerings
Cons: Difficult to search by country from their filters
Highlight: Homeless man walking tour in Paris [not avail currently]

Voyagin (govoyagin.com)
Pros: Really unique offerings in Japan/Asia, nice web layout
Cons: No search function
Highlight: Dress up as a Geisha in Japan

Get Your Guide (getyourguide.com)
Pros: Low prices, convenient calender
Cons: Website has a very commercial feel
Highlight: Grand Canyon helicopter tour

Viator (viator.com)
Pros: Largest number of activities in all countries
Cons: Not very unique/offbeat
Highlight: Amsterdam tulip field tour

Withlocals (withlocals.com)
Pros: Easy to navigate website, great pictures
Cons: Limited offerings in every country
Highlight: All the eat with locals activities

Bemyguest (bemyguest.com.sg)
Pros: local startup (is that considered a pro? haha), comprehensive bali listing
Cons: Many repetitive activities
Highlight: Seawalking in Bali

My personal favourites are Voyagin and Withlocals, cause I like the whole concept of making friends with the locals and seeing the country through their eyes. What about everyone else?

Interesting!
I've booked on Viator before. You can find coupons for further discounts by searching sites like retailmenot.com

Alternatively for free activities try couchsurfing.com - it's primarily a site for people looking for free accommodation by staying in someone's apartment / couch. But you can find lots of activities that will be attended by locals / expats / tourists etc.

For example, in Japan during Cherry Blossom season there will be hanami gatherings where you can join and picnic and make new friends.

Couchsurfing and airbnb are also great means of meeting new local friends :) (sadly, airbnb is "technically" illegal in Singapore)

I think there are currently quite a few cherry blossom meetups available on Voyagin!
