By taskbar do you mean the bar at the top? when the app is launched, there will be a cloud icon on the taskbar similar to Dropbox.

I am referring to the bar at the top.

What I meant is that for Dropbox, whenever I turn on my iMac, the Dropbox icon will always be at the top buy this is not the case with One Drive

When you launch OneDrive for the first time, you will be prompted to login and thereafter choose the location of where you want to sync your OneDrive files to your mac. And it will give you the option on whether you want to sync everything or selected folders.

By the way, you should not select Macintosh > Application since that is the central location for all your apps.

I suggest that you delete the OneDrive app away and redownload from the app store before trying going thru the above steps.

Ok good advise, I think maybe mine got corrupted or something.

But before I redownload and get into the same problem again, instead of Macintosh > Application, what shall I choose/select ?

But before I redownload and get into the same problem again, instead of Macintosh > Application, what shall I choose/select ?

you should see the below screen when you launch the app, otherwise something is wrong.

Tick "Open at login" so that it will auto on when you turn on your iMac.

then choose a folder location. Personally i prefer to put it at Documents. it is up to your preference.

choose which folder you want to sync or simply sync everything.

If you didn't choose "Open at login" initially, you can still change it in the app preference after that.

From my understanding there is no sync button because it is supposed to sync automatically whenever it detect that there is something to sync and it is two ways.

isn't dropbox something similar?

Yes dropbox will auto sync when I add a file on either side ...

But I created a folder and added a file on the iMac side but it didn't sync ... it will sync only after I quit and re-launch the OneDrive Apps ...

Is yours like that too ?

when you click on onedrive at the taskbar, does it say "last update xx mintues" when you added a file or something?

If you have a office 365 subscription, you get 1TB of space so that is one good reason to use it since you kind of paid for it already

You can upload almost anything. I use it just like dropbox

You can upload video, photos, exe and many more.

If you have OneDrive on your iPhone you can even auto backup your camera roll

in any case, you would most likely have at least 30GB free even without the office 365 subscription which is quite a lot.

Yes it did but it's grey-out ...

it is supposed to be grey-out since it is just displaying information.

you mentioned that you have multiple mac. is it the same on the other mac?

you can have both version installed. they do not conflict.

so if you do not want both, then install MS 2011

One warning about using OneDrive though. Don't keep sensitive stuff there (i.e. Torrents, illegal content/pictures). They run algorithms through your photos to identify objectionable content. You run the risk of flouting their terms of service.

Not that I've heard of anyone being affected by that, but if the security agencies here or in the U.S. are snooping around (or if PRISM is used against Microsoft and they cave in), you might get in trouble.

actually this apply to all cloud storage. nothing is safer than having them stored locally, perhaps only disasters.
