Long last got boss to agree to fund computers

Heavy data mining workload... talk about 250mb excel files..

background task would be outlook

Budget can go s$4-5k per unit

getting 4 units at one go... no need monitor and peripherals btw...

need advise please... excel is very good at multi threading
..

Desktops btw, we all have laptops already...

1) This Teradata, is it a seperate system of some sort or is it a program?

2) How much space do you need to keep the farmed data? 4GB?

3) Since you are farming data, do you need to keep the system on 24/7?

4) Since you want to buy 4 at oneshot, shall I assume that budget will be approx $1250 PER rig?

5) Any options to get less rigs but in return, get more powerful rigs? (ie. use $$$ for 2 rigs and buy 1 rig.)

6) Any idea how much RAM does your software uses?

i think its best you go email terradata about their software recommended system requirement(how much ram, processor power,OS) and come back here so that we can better help u. Terradata got so many type of software and each requirement may vary.

Hmmm..., since the boss was so generous with the $$$, I wondered if I can drop in a Tesla or Firepro S computing GPU for maximum farming efficiency? (How do these things work anyway?)
