What is the best way to make sure Chromebook and/or laptop have backlit keyboard?
Luck

Unfortunately some laptop models have different variants

E.g. if you search psref Lenovo for a specific model, you will see different variants with different configurations, some have backlit keyboard, some don't

Not all seller product listing spec sheet data is 100% correct

Is Pixelbook still a good buy?

Last release 2019 and updates til 2029? The specs at 8GB with SSD and M3 CPU even outspec newer Celeron Chromebook using eMMC.

Amazon selling USD 299

What are the benefits of getting a Chromebook over just installing ChromeOS Flex on a used/old laptop?

The first Googlebooks are going on sale in the US on 4 Oct

https://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/pc/laptops/first-googlebooks-are-going-sale-us-4-oct

According to Google’s head of laptops and tablets, John Maletis, Googlebooks were designed “to work seamlessly with your Android phone.” To do that, it runs Googlebook OS – an OS that’s based heavily on Android and looks somewhat like a cross between Android and ChromeOS.

Once you connect your Android phone to a Googlebook, the two become an extension of each other. Notifications are shared, as are files and photos, and you can even run apps on your phone on the Googlebook.

Not yet, maybe in the future. Let's see.

It is probably better to wait anyway as the initial iteration may not be that good yet not cheap.
Yes... Pretty expensive but it comes with premium specs
