i was thinking of getting ava 2.0 disc for a start after checking on the components between 2.0 and 1.0...

I thought 8 speed and 9 speed mtb hubs are the same? Just need to change the cassette and the shifter plus RD to 9 speed ones if they are of 8 speed. Correct me if I am wrong.

As far as I know, if the RD is already a 9 speed RD, then need to change the shifter, cassette and chain (I forgot about this one earlier) to convert the 8 speed to 9 speed. If the RD is a 8 speed one, then will also have to change it to a 9 speed one. The crank wise, I am not too sure, maybe ask the bike mechanic would be better. But I am always led to believe that 8 speed and 9 speed are using same hub specifications. 6 or 7 speeds hubs would need to change. Unless I misunderstood about this part.

PS. Some 8 speed bikes already have 9 speed RD, it is the 8 speed shifter that limits a 9 speed RD to work as a 8 speed one. So for such case, changing the shifter to a 9 speed one would enable the RD to work as a 9 speed RD.

think i will get a ava 2.0 for a start and upgrade the stock parts if it gets damaged along the way...

One more thing, if you are planning to use disc brakes later, get the bike with disc brakes now or at least make sure that the hubs are disc compatible. Else you would need to change the hubs to disc compatible ones even if it is able to fit the 9 speed cassette. I made this mistake last time.

After long consideration from the info i searched on the net and consultation with my friends, i have decided on ava 2.0 disc for a start.

wanna ask is there any major difference between Tektro Aquila and Tektro Auriga brakes?

Aguila is mechanical disc, Auriga is hydraulic disc

Aguila use cable tension to actuate the calipers, Auriga use hydraulic oil pressure to actuate the calipers

both are entry disc brakes to me, if u have the money to spend look higher up on the Shimano hydraulic series, e.g SLX at $300~... got more money? XT at $400+...

and to add.. if u are looking at mechanical disc only, then get the Avid BB7.. think ard $200~..

erm do consider using mavic 717+xtr hubs.i enjoying buttersmooth ride

ish for road bike, he say is shimano 10 speed but dunno la, how come brakes got speed?

he say those with colour ones better:

kool stop - red
swiss stop - green

my qn is: where to get these pads at special offer? is chinatown the only one selling?
