PS. If you are really thinking of upgrading later, better get one mid level one at least. You may encounter incompatibility issues if the bike is too low end such as the inner diameter of head tube for a lot of low end ones "marketbikes" are of 1" diameter while most modern suspension forks' steerer tubes are of 1 1/8" diameter. 6 and 7 speed wheelhubs are also unable to fit 8 or 9 speeds cassettes.

I think it should be. I have never gone through its parts in detail, maybe some GT Ava3.0 users could advice if there are any issues encountered if upgrading.

for ava 3.0 and 2.0, it comes with 8 speed components, in future if want to change to 9 speed, got to change cassette, chain, shifters and read derailer together which can be quite painful to change everything together. If u intend to upgrade to 9 speed slowly, probably go for a 1.0 straight. the 1.0 is already a 9 speed, so if want to upgrade to xt or xtr, can do it part by part. If you intend use disc brakes, start with disc version. If u get v brake version, in future if want to change to disc brake, u got to change wheelset. (a bit stupid just to change to disc ready hubs alone as there are cost involved for wheelbuiilding.)

wheelset lighter, whole bike will feel lighter, cuz it's rolling weight. Pick up will be faster
bike will also be able to coast longer (u got to run in the hubs before u can feel it)

my GT ava 2.0 hardtail bought in 2004, the ride damn hard sia, everytime go over a bump only, can feel the bump directly LOL.

I am not sure abt XT hub but upgrade to another higher wheelset. Acceleration is easier and faster. Yr top seed in flat road and downslope will definitely improve than yr previous record without upgrading yr stamina and strength.

One thing to take note. Good wheelset does not just depend on yr weight and hub. Yr rim ,spoke are equally important. If u use XT hub lace to lousy spoke and rim. The wheelset will be equally lousy and makes no different from yr previous wheelset. Meaning 0% improvement.

A light wheelset only improves in climbing. A light wheelset does not neccessary improve yr acceleration and top speed in flat road.

I stress on one thing. Stiffness of yr wheelset is very important. A very stiff wheelset will hardly waste a single jol of yr stroke of pedal. Meaning very efficient wheelset.

I remember when I upgrade my wheelset. I can feel so much power and acceleration on my bic. Previous road I can hit 38km/h with my old wheelset. Now can hit 43km/h with new one.

It's always weight vs stiffness vs price.

DT revo is light compared to comp but flexy. DT aero is frigging sexpensive.
Also the wheelbuilder skill very important.

hi all, i am current looking to purchase a bike; budget ard 800.
any recos? model, size (i'm ard 183cm)
have saw the list of shops but any reco for best priced ones?
am residing in west, so preferably ard here, don't mind going a lil further tho.
