SINGAPORE (Sept 1): DBS Group Holdings will benefit most among the three Singapore banks if the US Fed raises interest rates soon, RHB Research says.
Although concerns over its oil and gas plays remain, as do worries over the impact of a weak economy on the bank's performance, RHB says a rate increase would lead to a rise in the Singapore Interbank Offered Rate.
An increase in that rate would widen DBS’s net interest margin more than its peers, RHB says.
Still, RHB is keeping a “Neutral” rating on the three Singapore banks. The comments come after Singapore's broad money supply rose 5.5% on year in July, up from 4.2% growth in June.
“Weak loan growth in the manufacturing and general commerce sectors suggest that economic activities are likely to be subdued in the immediate future,” it adds.
Shares of DBS are up 4 Singaporean cents at S$15.03.

lolMAS tweaks TDSR
http://www.theedgeproperty.com.sg/content/mas-tweaks-tdsr
The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) announced today (Sep 1) that it will now extend concessions on refinancing to all owner-occupied residential properties, including those bought after the introduction of the total debt servicing ratio (TDSR) loan framework on June 28, 2013. Previously, only borrowers of owner-occupied residential properties bought before the introduction of TDSR could be exempted from the TDSR threshold of 60% when refinancing their existing home loans. However, TDSR threshold still applies for new property loans.
Likewise, MAS will allow borrowers of investment properties to refinance their property loans above the TDSR threshold, even if the properties were purchased after the TDSR was introduced. However, there are two conditions to be met:
Borrowers have to commit to a debt reduction plan with their respective financial institution to repay at least 3% of the outstanding balance within three years; and
Fulfill the financial institution’s credit assessment
The revised rules will take immediate effect.
