KT Lim's Genting Group wins right to boost stake in Echo Entertainment

http://www.smh.com.au/business/kt-l...ke-in-echo-entertainment-20150904-gjexxg.html

After a three year and three month wait, Malaysian gaming mogul KT Lim could become the largest investor in Australian casino operator Echo Entertainment within weeks, paving the way for a possible takeover tilt.
Mr Lim's Genting empire, which controls Asia's second-biggest gaming company, Genting Singapore, bought a 9.7 per cent stake in Echo in early 2012 without approaching the Echo board.
That deal came shortly after rival James Packer's Crown Resorts snapped up a 10 per cent holding in a sharemarket raid. Crown later sold out of Echo in 2013.
Sensing his opportunity, Mr Lim applied in June 2012 to the NSW government to lift Genting's stake beyond the mandated 10 per cent cap.

More details in the link above.

The cruise business run by Genting is consolidated into Genting HK after the RTO of Star Cruises. The gaming, resort and theme park business is under Genting SP.

SINGAPORE: Genting Hong Kong said on Friday (Sep 4) it has received approval to raise its stake in Australia's Echo Entertainment Group above the 10 per cent level, from one of two regulatory bodies that can block the transaction.

The Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority of the State of New South Wales said it will allow Genting HK to increase its shareholding in Echo to above 10 per cent, but not more than 23 per cent without further approval.

Genting HK will continue to liaise with the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation in Queensland for similar written consent, it said in a filing to the Singapore Exchange.

Echo owns and operates the Star Casino in Sydney, Australia, Treasury Casino and Hotel in Brisbane, Australia, and Jupiters Hotel and Casino in Gold Coast, Australia. It is also developing a new casino-resort and residential precinct at Queen's Wharf in Brisbane.

Genting HK, which operates Star Cruises, currently owns a 6.6 per cent stake in Echo. It is part of the Genting group of companies that includes Genting Singapore, the operator of Resorts World Sentosa.

Oic, so Genting Group is overall head while Genting SP is under it as a sub and Genting HK is another arm. So what happens to Genting HK doesn't affect Genting SP.

I want to buy their otc 5.125% perp ask price 97 now, but their latest income statement is confusing. How did they make a $95.043 mil loss from portfolio investment?

They added that as of this quarter, their portfolio has been significantly reduced with realised net gains over the lifetime of these investment. Anyone familar with this?

really don't believe in averaging down
may end up getting a lot of money stuck in one counter that you don't have excess money for other counters when better opportunity comes

when you buy a counter whose price is going down against your purchase price, this is just like your woman's heart is drifting further and further away from you

in trying to average down a counter, it is just like trying to hold onto someone who no longer loves you, because letting go is not easy, you feel that you have already spent too much time and money on 'her'

when face with such a situation, either you move over, dump her, look for a new love (buy other more promising counters and/or cut loss if you can)

or you just pray that someday her heart will return to you (not doing anything, hoping that share price will one day come back to your purchase price)

actually buying/selling shares is just like handling men/women relationship

it's your call, to let go or to pray if things get messy and ugly!
hope you find your 'love' soon !

True indeed, for me 10% I cut loss, even if it is a blue chip. Then I will wait on the side to get back if it go down further and I have reason to believe that it is not because of fundamental wise issues.. If it does not go down, then I will wait further, or may look to other opportunity. Never worry about miss opportunity, worry about no capital to buy when opportunity come because your money is stuck in some counters. Cut loss is not loss, but rather get out of the way of BB. Sometimes a stock is been sold down by Fund(BB) for a good reason we retailer do not know, so better bail out first and wait it out and monitor.
