wing tai oue cap land city dev etc

all these are property developers

they tend to be cyclical, now the hype is due to rumors that property cooling measures will be taken off... dunno true or not

for cyclical industries such as commodities, marine, property development

these stocks have a very wide range of stock price and are mostly meant for trading... and the risk level are generally higher

the dividends are low... not suitable for buy/hold/forget

Golden post for the day :o

The time to buy cyclical stocks was last year
Now most already ran up
U see cap land already year high

My current strategy is to avoid cyclical stocks
Focus more on growth stocks example banks thai bev cdg
And dividend stocks telcos reits

Cheers

So now the game plan is to plan ahead. whats next after property sector? i personally feel its the agri stocks. With wilmar hitting its all time high, i feel that golden agri, indo agri, bumitama agri. have time to play "catch up" With trump supporting a stronger dollar, this should be benefit the agri stocks.

Ya I looked at FCL/OUE/CityDev/Capland/Wingtai.........then settled on FCL due to the attractive dividend yield......this one really slow and steady since its drop from 1.90 years ago.

Since when Trump is supporting a stronger dollar? He and his administration have been going around criticizing Japan, China, Germany for their loose money policies.

commodities, i feel not recovering as fast as what people are imagining ba

you look at oil.. dun think it will shoot up fast... more likely a slow recovery, i may be wrong

now stock price is moving way ahead of fundamentals

the full year results will show a better picture

How are banks not considered cyclical? :o:o

why are banks cyclical? I talking about the fundamentals not the stock price

property developments and marine biz are heavily dependent on contracts/projects

when economy booming, win many orders and build a lot
when recession comes, orders very little earnings plunge... like what we saw for keppel corp

banks is borrow at 1%, lend out at 3% earn the 2% spread
during recession the worries is defaults

the nature is very different

Banks are also economy-based isn't it?

btw... the dollar will not move big, dun expect USD to move like 5% or 10% or what.... dun expect commodities to move due to the exchange rate

commodities move or not, the real fundamentals is on DEMAND for the raw materials

past few years china slowed down a lot, whole world economy growing slower and consuming at a slower rate... there was too much supply and commodities prices crashed

now is still over supplied... and need a few years for the smaller companies to die off... like what we saw in the oil and gas segment... same for agriculture/commodities... the small will get removed

the big will remained... then eventually supply/demand will balance again
