if u hold for 5 years, the average return per year is 1.87%

the earlier UOB product you showed was 2.4% guaranteed per year if you hold up to 5 years + variable, guaranteed already 0.5 % more

For SSB even if you hold up to 10 years the average return per year is 2.44% only. Not even able to beat inflation of 2.66% on average. Your investment returns must at least achieve 3% p.a. to retain purchasing power. :s13:

Eg. If investment return is 4.00%. Real rate of return is 4.00 - 2.66 (average) = 1.34%

http://www.tradingeconomics.com/singapore/inflation-cpi

Rate in Singapore averaged 2.66 percent from 1962 until 2016, reaching an all time high of 34 percent in March of 1974 and a record low of -3.10 percent in September of 1976.

Tot is compounding interest? At the 10th yr should be 3.57%

Sometimes, it's hard to control or persuade them not to buy TOTO/4D. If they're comfortable and play in a "healthy" manner, do so by all their means. It's their entertainment fee btw :s12:

Which is why I rather dump my Emergency fund there, instead of hard earn war-chest inside. There's no way you can risk your EF into equities or share. Bank FD and Savings interest is still lower than what SSB can offer in 10-yr period.

Indeed if one don't mind lock 10yr then SSB is an option. But SSB is a compounding interest
