I'll just address the first post since it's the essence of this thread without going into nitty-gritty matters.
1) There have been more and more requests to shift threads to CAL. I believe it's the GE and post-GE period that has resulted in too many threads of similar topics and therefore such requests are increasing. One such request was made here (and there have been many others before this):-
https://deluxeforums.hardwarezone.c...on-move-all-political-thread-cal-6346360.html
Moderator felt it was probably time to accede and proceeded with the move. But time again has shown that most folks prefer the threads to stay where they've been created. Hence the moves are being reversed and if there are other move requests that have yet to be fulfilled, kindly inform us in that thread.
In short, we'll continue maintaining our existing moderation practice to only move old/inactive discussions to relevant discussion forums. This has been ongoing only to help prevent the old threads from being prunned (and thus the
sticky thread here regarding this). And pruning is mandatory to keep the EDMW DB-size in check, else the DB server's performance to our users will be severely affected.
2) I believe the above answers this? Merging is actually a good task especially where the topics and threads are identical. Merging does delete original thread links - sometimes they are re-routed to new ones, sometimes not. It's especially useful when there are too many of the same thing. For example, there can be one whole page of discussions opened on the very same topic. On the other hand, if discussions are deep seated, we generally don't merge them and leave them running as is. Most of the merging only happens in the initial burst of a new topic.
3) The above two should answer this? Apart from that, there are too many other reasons that normal qualify for a missing thread. i.e. poor taste, poor choice of words, repetitive threads, quarelling, threads derailed and not serving their purpose, complaints brought up via PM, email, etc. that warrant us to step in, thread starter requested to remove them, police and legal letters that require us to comply, etc. There's just too many reasons that something can go wrong and isn't in line with our TOS. Many times we don't even infract users because it's not exactly their fault, but how people outside of the forum (and the HWZ universe) perceive a discussion topic is very different and can be construed as slanderous, libelous, unfound statements/comments, harassement, etc.
The moderators and the admins face a lot of challenges in keeping the forum board running, so please kindly cut us some slack and try not to jump to conclusions.
What some forum users perceive us a fun comment or thread may not be so to many others who aren't forum users in the first place and we have to be mindful to their complaints and inputs if it's a valid point of view.
Hi Mod, I believe that lately there have been a spate of unhappiness over moderating issues. I propose to have this thread situated here in EDMW. This is so we could all voice our concerns and also allow the Moderating team to provide answers and explain to us the reasoning
Issues as of now
1. Shifting of threads over to Current Affairs
2. Biasness in shifting of threads (certain threads allowed to remain in edmw while others were shifted/ merged / deleted)
3. Magical disappearances of Threads without explanation
Thank you
