This post is for those whom I'm helping order stuff.

Just to let u all know, the things have already arrived in Singapore.
However it's under "retention" at the moment. Hopefully it will be cleared fast and will reach me today...

Updates:
Stuff is still under the "Retention status"...
Apparently they might be inspecting the package. :(

For anyone who might be interested in trying Rakuten they are having a shipping campaign at the moment in conjunction with Tenso (Freight forwarder). Since you can get free or very small postage charge to Tenso, this is a pretty good offer.

I may or may not be using this myself. If I do I will let you know the process.

"Rakuten is having another one of their fabulous international shipping campaigns, for up to 4000 yen off! The campaign is only until the 30th though, so keep an eye on the calendar!

Rakuten: 1,000 yen international shipping fee using Tenso.com - Shopping Japanese products from Japan

Up to 4000 yen off international shipping!
global.rakuten.com
New Rakuten shipping campaign! We reduce your international shipping cost to just 1000 yen, for up to a 4000 yen discount!"

should be fine.
just taking awhile because the package is quite big I guess..

updates for the shipment.
EMS is holding them back due to:
1) the amount stated was very close to $400 after conversion from Yen. If amount is above $400 it is taxable...so the jokers there cannot decide whether to tax or not. (I think)

2) waiting till after PH to deliver. (zzz..considering it reached Singapore early Thursday)

According to the spokesperson, said the package is safe in the warehouse...

I guess Singpost hope that the next day's currency conversion will hit $400.

It also sucks when you pay a lot for the postage and have to wait longer due to weekends and PHs.

While the bricks in the West are getting bigger, the Japanese have created bricks smaller than Nanoblock.

Introducing Plamo Block, it is smaller than Nanoblock!

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to update you on the Rakuten / Tenso 4000 yen off shipping campaign as I have just completed the process and my package will be on the way shortly.

Here's the link to the campaign again for anyone interested:

Rakuten: 1,000 yen international shipping fee using Tenso.com - Shopping Japanese products from Japan

The rakuten store I used was terraformer:

rakuten.co.jp/auc-terraformer

I didn't buy nanoblocks, I was buying figures and model kits. I didn't have much trouble using their website, I just used google translate (I have a chrome app that does it easily) and made my order. I had the option to join Rakuten membership as well, which I did as you then get points but you don't have to. Some rakuten sites don't use credit card or may not accept international credit card, but I had no issue with this store. Also, because my order was over 10000yen shipping was free domestically within Japan. In otherwords free shipping to Tenso, the freight forwarder.

So I ordered late Sunday night. Around midday Monday I received an email from terraformer saying all was good and my order would be shipped that day. I got a tracking number I could use on Japan Post website.

Monday evening I received an email from Tenso with information on my shipping coupon. This seems to have just happened automatically, presumably the shop I purchased from notified Tenso once my payment went through.

Package arrived at Tenso Tuesday morning and Tenso notified me by email around midday Tuesday of the weight of the package and the amount owing.
The package weighed 2.7kg and the total amount owing to Tenso before the coupon was 980yen handling fee plus 5400yen EMS shipping, total 6380yen. On the payment page at Tenso there is an option to tick use coupon, which I did, then on the next page the 4000yen had been deducted and I was now requested to pay total of 2380yen. I paid and my package will be shipping later tonight.

Very happy with the process and speed. Japan always seem to do things right with customer service. I know it can be a little bit daunting to some to work through these types of things but I had fun doing it and am really happy it has all been successful. I'm getting a pretty big hefty package (with some great discounted kits and models) sent EMS for pretty cheap. :)

Anyway, good luck to anyone else who wants to try it.

Verdict is out. Was stuck at customs since Thursday. Today dispatched. Supposed to reach me today, but then I didn't get any notification about it till 5pm. Then no one was home.

Hope it comes in tmr. Loads of people here waiting for their stuff. =|

Date Status Details Office Prefecture
Aug 16 Retention SIN SINGAPORE

Aug 21 Retention 408600 SINGAPORE

stuck at Singpost in Paya Lebar now. :(
so much for the lady on the phone telling me delivering yesterday before 6pm

very very upset with this slow service. Usually EMS will deliver within 2-3 days after leaving JPN. This has taken way too long. Lesson learnt, don't ship before a public holiday.
