New public housing estate in Kranji in 10 years

The land in Kranji has not been well-utilised after the popularity of horse racing declined, but the authorities will give it a new lease of life, PM Wong says.

A new MRT station will be built at Sungei Kadut, which will be an interchange connecting the North-South Line and Downtown Line.

PM Wong says Kranji, which spans about 130ha or about 200 football fields, has ample space, good connectivity and nature.

He says there will be a new Mandai mangrove and mudflat nature park, in addition to Mandai Wildlife Reserve and Sungei Mandai.

About 14,000 new homes – including public housing – will be built amid these green spaces, he adds, and Singaporeans can look forward to the new estate in about 10 years’ time.

The estate will have more amenities, including a new neighbourhood centre, around Kranji MRT station.

The redeveloped Woodlands Checkpoint will be five times bigger than its current size, which will lead to shorter waiting times and less traffic congestion, he says.

The authorities aim to open the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link by the end of 2026.

The RTS Link station in Singapore will be at Woodlands and directly connected to Woodlands North MRT station, making cross-border travel more convenient.

Flexible industrial spaces will be built around the RTS Link station and more homes will be built near Admiralty Park and along the Woodlands waterfront, he adds.

All these will transform Woodlands into a modern and vibrant regional centre, he says.
