Understand your feeling. When scalpers lowered their price to $1000, I almost purchase it.
I managed to control myself and got from Sony nex at $729 eventually in late Jan.

Thing is my queue at Sony Somerset prob around 800 plus the last time I signed up for it so hard to see also , took a couple of offs and leaves at March in preparation for the ps5. Sad that we have to wait/ sacrifice this kinda prices to game purely.

It’s okay Krub, for the extra $300 U eliminated all the time wasting, the stress and fuss and the agony of searching and waiting and disappointing ... while now, the feeling of holding the super heavy box home the first time, and seeing the booting up screen for the very first time => PRICELESS. Welcome to the owner club and enjoy your GOT ! I just slept 5 hours last night cause of it, and will be starting Act 2 ... lol.

After seeing the disappointment of many true gamers who struggle to get a PS5, only then did I realise how fortunate that I managed to get it on launch day very easily.

I didn't queue for hours at a retail store. I didn't do any online preorder (Scalpers using bots makes it even harder, that's why I avoid it).

So how did I get it? I simply walk in to an empty retail store. No queue & zero customers. Pay deposit. And that's it. Then wait to collect on launch day.

Here's a tip on how to secure a set at retail price on launch day in the future, without paying exorbitant prices from scalpers. Coz I'm sure this shortage of stocks situation that we're seeing now with PS5 (scalpers taking advantage of the situation) will definitely repeat again with the eventual release of PS5 Pro & PS6 (PS5 Slim maybe this situation won't happen, as I believe there will be enough stocks for walk-in at retail).

1) Preorder much earlier. At least several months in advance. Don't wait until preorder date is officially open (Eg. PS5 released in Nov, preorder start Sep. Around June/July/Aug, you can proceed to preorder & put deposit to secure a launch day set). Take note only some, not all, stores accept early preorder. Its simply a matter of knowing where to go.

2) High chance of success if you preorder at a game store. Specifically small game stores with only one outlet in Singapore (Avoid game stores with multiple outlets like PlayE, TOG, GameMartz, GameExtreme, Game Resort. Also avoid stores with bad reputation like Qisahn).

Try not to preorder at electronics store like Courts, Harvey Norman, Challenger, Best Denki.

It works for me. I avoid/didn't preorder at any of the stores listed above. Yet I manage to get a PS5 on 19 Nov at $729. I simply went to a small game store, months in advance before official preorder date. And easily secure a launch day set. No queueing for hours, no online preorder competing with bots & no buying from scalpers.

we get it, you did your homework. not everyone has the same mindset as you. those shops you mentioned, no doubt people will go there because it’s neighbourhood friendly.

PS5 was officially announced on 16/17 Sep 2020. Pre-orders in SG started on 18 Sep 2020. i believe you pre-ordered way before the official pre-order date, we can assume you have connections with the game store owner? 🤔 otherwise, no game outlets will take your money when they don’t know any info about ps5 or even know how many stocks they’re going to received.

I have zero connection with the store owners & don't know the names of any of the staff there. In fact, I seldom went to that game store at all. I only go once in a while to buy some narrative-driven AAA Sony exclusives that I can't wait to play or afraid of seeing spoilers online. The rest I usually buy used/2nd hand games on carousell. Besides that, the only time I visit the store is to preorder new upcoming console.

The store accept PS5 preorders much earlier before Sep. You have to ask the staff & tell them you're interested to PO. If nobody ask, they also won't say anything & keep quiet. Coz by right, they're not allowed to do so. After I pay deposit, they told me for guaranteed launch batch stocks on 19 Nov, their store only take in 50 preorders first. Those 50, they guarantee their store will receive on launch day. Then they let me know what number I am on the list. That's how I know I successfully secure a set as I'm below 50. Just pay $200 deposit & that's it.

The game store is among PlayStation Authorise Partner Stores. In that list, there's only a few game stores with only one outlet in Singapore. I'm sure you can figure it out.

Eh, why not just say the game shop u po from.
Anyway i did pre-register for PO with Gamewerks via FB but somehow they didn't get back when it is open.

Luckily managed to get a launch day set via a challenger link which one bro share here

So yea, need to be vigilant and keep an eye for any PO opportunity in order to secure one now.

If you look closely, you'll realise the answer is there all along. Just in a roundabout way to not make it too obvious (In case some users cry foul or accuse me of sabotaging the store by putting the name out there).

When I list the names & said "Its one of these game stores", the 'ONE' I'm implying/referring to is literally the first name on the list. The first one.

Will do the same for switch Pro soon!

Oo almost forgot about Switch Pro.
I hope Switch Pro can do 4k gaming, then can utilise my new TV. If can do 4k gaming, then I may preorder that one too.

I learn my lesson was hesitating whether to preorder the 7 remake ultimate edition and ended up paying extra $100 to get the edition coz backside itchy don’t want to preorder when given the opportunity. Once the news release that ps5 is going to launch end of the year. I went to my lgs to register my interest. Was then told to wait for call or sms but didn’t received so i head down to the shop again during the price release date and fortunately able to secure my launch day set. Heard the staff saying the queue of mine almost missed out due to the overwhelming of interest and during that time they also not sure how many sets will be allocate to them. Damn lucky i went down to enquire, otherwise now also happy waiting.

After seeing the disappointment of many true gamers who struggle to get a PS5, only then did I realise how fortunate that I managed to get it on launch day very easily.
