xbox game pass is currently still superior to shitty psn + .

If sony still offers nothing close to xbox game pass next year , I imagine most gamers gonna flock to xbox for more value especially those who also own a gaming pc like me.
Since game exclusively only last for few mths or 1 year nowadays

Could be interesting if android platform is bundled somehow in the future .
Anyways its win-win for the consumers

depends what type of games you want to play.. i subscribe to xbox game pass for a month very hype about the games (Flight simulator/DMC5/WWZ) i will be playing.. but i only stick to it like 2 weeks.. before i go back to ps4.. (ghost of tsushima, fall guys) generally i think japanese game will still prefer to launch in playstation platform.. with their dominant on Japanese market.

In the end , game pass is a good concept.. but its still the game that count.. although time exclusive.. i really do prefer to play the FFXVI when it launch rather than when it launch on other platform a year later... but of coz if u like western rpg.. might be better to try xbox .. now they aquired Bethesda

Same here. I subscribed to Game Pass to play Outer Worlds, was amazed at the value of playing a full AA(A?) game on Day 1 for subscription price.

But then I realized after 3+ months that I didn't really have the time to consume the other games. It was almost like a rental service for me, pay SGD15 to play the specific games that you want for that month, then unsubscribe to save costs.

These type of services bank on customers who auto-renew subscription without thinking about it. Maybe it works for people who got enough time and appetite to play until it's worth it, but for me, I think I'll stick to purchasing as and when there are good sales.

Actually there is a similar service called PS Now but unfortunately only available for selected countries. PS2, PS3, PS4 games on PS Now can be streamed to PS4 and PC. As of 2020, there are over 800 games available, with over 300 of them available for download to PS4. New games are added every month. As of this year they only have 2.2mil subscription, but cheaper and more games than game pass but not popular because PS Now doesn’t have 1st party games day one and will only be added months/years later for a limited time period only.

Depends on how you like to play. If you have a 65 inch OLED in your living room with HDR, more convenient to get both next gen consoles.

I don't have a need myself for the charging dock. Was considering the headset but might just hold it off.

Base/Stand is included in every PS5. Its needed for both vertical & horizontal position.

Not necessarily true. Back in 2006 during the transition from PS2 to PS3, lifetime sales of PS2 (100+ million units sold at that point) were comparable to PS4.

Yet Sony didn't hesitate to 'ignore' the massively successful PS2 & leave the past generation behind (Though I know God of War 2 released in 2007, as the final big first-party game). Once PS3 release in 2006, all their games are PS3 exclusive moving forward, with no PS2 version in development. Same thing happen during the transition from PS3 to PS4 in 2013.

Here's some examples of exclusive games in Year 1 by Sony's first-party studios, which weren't release on previous generation hardware.

PS3 (2006 - 2007) - Resistance: Fall of Man, Motorstorm, Genji: Days of the Blade, Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Folklore, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, The Eye of Judgment, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

No PS2 version.

PS4 (2013 - 2014) - Killzone: Shadow Fall, Infamous: Second Son, Driveclub, Resogun, Knack (The Order: 1886 were initially slated to release end of 2014, but got delayed to early 2015)

No PS3 version.

Key word is "as long as people are buying the games", if they see a sharp decline in PS4 game sales in moving forward, of course they will stop the development.

On the PS2 to PS3 transition and game support, below is quote from wikipedia which paints a vastly different picture than what you described.

"Even with the release of its successor, the PlayStation 3, the PS2 remained popular well into the seventh generation, and continued to be produced until 2013, when Sony finally announced it had been discontinued after over twelve years of production—one of the longest lifespans of a video game console. Despite the announcement, new games for the console continued to be produced until the end of 2013, including Final Fantasy XI: Seekers of Adoulin for Japan, FIFA 13 for North America, and Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 for Europe. But PS4 like xbox one will ultimately stop getting the newer game, so xbox series s will be the answer when comparing next gen option.

You said non gamer parents meaning casual gaming kids which don't care for the latest greatest so PS4 with thousands of games is the best choice for such a family.

They won't be running out of games to buy any time soon even if Sony totally stops PS4 game production in 4 years time.
