I think it is the 'bad impression" that VQ subscribers only complain in HWZ when it goes down. In my own experience (been using VQ for more than 8 years already), actually, downtimes are minimal (as compared to mainstream ISPs). The major outage was during the COVID lockdowns for me. And probably just 2 other minor outages (which only affected some users/regions) which resolved quickly.

My pain points are actually their poor level 1 customer support (speed and their responses) and basic support. On the flip side, their tech support (higher levels) tend to be more flexible and they could go an extra mile. But, I would say that it's not an ideal ISP meant for general public.
I just hate that they do not have any good ASUS routers for bundle/package and that their static IP has had a significant increase in price. Furthermore, their marketing in price is getting sus. Their "optional" services are annoying AF as well as you actually have to write in to cancel them.

That said, compared to traffic light ISP, I feel that their technical service in general is easier to reach if u call in.

Hmm on the contrary I had positive experiences with their CS support as compared to the traffic lights. I didn’t have to wait endlessly to be able to speak to a human.

So far my experience with VQ is rather good, think past few years I only encountered one or maybe two downtime.

The sian thing for me is that I have to call the CS whenever I change my router.

I suspect cloning the MAC address from the old router would do the trick.
M1 works this way as well, calling support for things like this is a waste of everyone's time and a test of patience. :s13:

I believe M1 users no longer need to call CS for changing router. Probably M1 has now got enough IPv4 addresses like Singtel/Starhub.

I haven't tried recently, but M1 didn't use to have this kind of restrictions for pulling a public ipv4 address from their DHCP servers up until 1 or 2 years ago.

Strangely they also limit how often you can request for a new ipv6 prefix from their DHCPv6 server to once every 24 hours. :spin:

Was reading through the thread but have a few questions,
for those living in houses with multiple stories, would a 1gbps broadband suffice?

imo the most important factor to a good surfing experience is having structured cabling to every room in your house.

Once you have that, you can simply solve wireless weak spots by buying a router, plugging it into the LAN port and setting it to AP mode.

1Gbps is more than sufficient for basic web surfing and media consumption, even 500Mbps is enough if your usage is not super heavy.

got it! every room has their own lan port, so it should be fine.there is a total of 4 floors, so we just have to purchase a router for every single floor right?
TIA

Yup, for a start that's what I'll do.

Add additional routers as necessary. Also reduce the transmit power of adjacent routers if you find your devices to be a little bit "sticky" when it's supposed to roam to the next router.

yes, used to do the MAC cloning trick - otherwise, the alternative to calling and waiting 1-2 hours in the queue just to get a reset, was to wait turn off the ONT and router overnight (both not tenable alternatives).

fortunately, just before covid, they introduced a self-service call in method.
Last year, the last i swapped router, it took 15min of waiting (might have been shorter, but that was the time it took to have my lunch).

i just changed my router for VQ. didn't need to call in. perhaps its because i'm on static?
Hmm I have gotten static IP. But maybe they have changed cos the last I changed my router is a year ago or so.

If that’s the case, it’ll be a good news for me.

Anyone know which is a good ISP to move from Starhub? Recent routing for gaming seems to be absolute DOG5HIT. Am thinking M1. Anyone can offer some experience? No Singtel as its ONR. Need ONT.

It all depends on the server. You may want to post the server IP for reference.

It is said that MR/VQ may better entertain routing change request but there is a limit as well. For example, both have lousy routing to China. None of the ISPs can guarantee good latency to all servers as the cost will be prohibitive to do that. So it is case by case.

In the end, you may want to subscribe to a gaming accelerator/VPN service, depending on the games you play.

In which case might be better to just maintain starhub and use vpn for OZ servers. Cause that has been consistent for me so far.

Gg my m1 1gbps...now reminds me why I wanted to change last year and earlier this year...

Can't blame my WiFi 6 connection...

My ps5 on lan to router direct is getting only 400mbps.
just changed to starhub... hitting around 600mbps on lan cable to router... seems like really congestion problem?

will check again during weekday working hours
